Key Responsibilities

As a Senior IT Database Specialist, you will be responsible for the following core functions:

• Database Administration: Oversee the installation, configuration, maintenance, and performance tuning of enterprise-level database systems, including Oracle, SQL Server, or other relevant platforms, to ensure high availability and reliability.
• Data Security and Compliance: Implement and enforce robust security measures to protect sensitive patient and organizational data in accordance with HIPAA, GDPR, and other regulatory standards. Conduct regular audits and risk assessments to mitigate potential vulnerabilities.
• Performance Optimization: Analyze database performance metrics, identify bottlenecks, and implement strategic improvements to enhance system efficiency, scalability, and responsiveness.
• Disaster Recovery and Backup: Develop and maintain comprehensive disaster recovery plans, ensuring minimal downtime and data loss in the event of system failures or cyber incidents. Manage backup and recovery procedures to safeguard critical information.
• Collaboration and Leadership: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including IT infrastructure, application development, and cybersecurity, to align database solutions with organizational goals. Provide mentorship and guidance to junior database administrators and IT staff.
• System Upgrades and Patching: Plan and execute database software upgrades, patches, and migrations to keep systems current with the latest features, security updates, and industry best practices.
• Reporting and Documentation: Generate detailed reports on database performance, capacity planning, and security incidents. Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations, procedures, and changes for audit and compliance purposes.

Qualifications and Experience

To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Relevant certifications such as Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, or equivalent are highly desirable.
• Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in database administration, with at least 3-5 years in a senior or lead capacity. Prior experience in the healthcare industry is a strong advantage.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in database management systems (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL), SQL scripting, performance tuning, and backup/recovery solutions. Familiarity with cloud-based database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL) is a plus.
• Soft Skills: Exceptional problem-solving abilities, strong analytical mindset, and excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels. Leadership qualities to mentor and guide junior team members are essential.
• Certifications: Relevant certifications in database administration, cybersecurity, or cloud platforms are preferred but not mandatory.
