Position Overview
As the Tax Manager, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing U.S. tax compliance, tax accounting, and fixed-asset tax matters while collaborating closely with the General Ledger (GL) team to ensure alignment with IFRS standards. This role is instrumental in maintaining accurate financial reporting, robust internal controls, and seamless coordination across tax, accounting, and operational functions. Your responsibilities will span strategic tax planning, regulatory adherence, and cross-functional leadership, ensuring our tax strategies support both operational execution and long-term business objectives. Key Responsibilities
Tax Reporting & Regulatory Compliance:
- Lead the preparation and oversight of federal, state, and local tax filings, including quarterly and annual tax provision calculations with a focus on deferred taxes.
- Maintain rigorous internal controls and ensure compliance with evolving tax regulations and reporting standards.
- Coordinate with external tax advisors on complex matters, audits, and strategic tax initiatives, supported by comprehensive in-house analysis.
- Evaluate capital expenditure requests to ensure appropriate tax classification and identify opportunities for tax efficiency in capital projects.
- Oversee tax depreciation calculations and maintain precise fixed-asset records to support financial integrity.
- Strengthen documentation, workflows, and internal controls related to tax and fixed-asset accounting processes.
- Manage state and local tax (SALT) compliance, including state income/franchise tax filings, apportionment reviews, and nexus considerations.
- Handle property tax filings, assessments, and coordinate with local jurisdictions to optimize tax positions.
IFRS Fixed Asset & GL Collaboration:
- Partner with the GL team to ensure fixed-asset activities align with both tax and IFRS requirements, fostering consistency and accuracy in financial reporting.
- Support monthly close activities, including reconciliations, depreciation reviews, and journal entries related to tax and fixed-asset accounting.
- Provide comprehensive documentation and support for internal and external audits, ensuring transparency and compliance.
- Offer strategic guidance on the tax and IFRS implications of new assets, leases, and major transactions to inform decision-making.
Coordination with Global Teams:
- Collaborate with regional finance teams, legal, and operational leaders to align on tax strategies and ensure consistency across U.S. business units.
- Champion a culture of compliance, accuracy, and risk awareness, driving continuous improvement in tax processes and controls.
Qualifications & Competencies
Requirements:
- 5–15 years of progressive experience in U.S. corporate tax, tax accounting, or related fields, with a proven track record in a corporate environment.
- In-depth technical knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations, including experience with fixed-asset tax matters and depreciation methodologies.
- Hands-on experience preparing or reviewing tax provisions under ASC 740, ensuring adherence to accounting standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active CPA, MST, or other relevant tax certifications, demonstrating a commitment to professional excellence.
- Experience with IFRS fixed-asset accounting, particularly in industries with complex asset structures.
- Background in construction, industrial, or energy sectors, with an understanding of sector-specific tax challenges.
- Familiarity with tax matters in government-contracting environments, including compliance with DOE, NRC, and FAR regulations.
