Senior Tech Lead

As a leading home services marketplace, we have moved beyond proving our concept and are now focused on rapid, sustainable scaling. We are seeking a Senior Technical Lead to drive the architectural vision, elevate engineering standards, and propel us toward becoming the category leader in this dynamic space.

This is not a passive maintenance role. You will be responsible for shaping the technical direction of our platform from the ground up, assembling and leading a high-performing engineering team, and delivering solutions that directly impact business growth. Your role will be pivotal in transitioning our platform from its current state to a scalable, industry-defining infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Architectural Ownership: Design, develop, and evolve the systems that underpin our marketplace and SaaS products. This includes matching logic, transaction flows, multi-tenant infrastructure, and customer-facing APIs, ensuring they are robust, scalable, and aligned with business objectives.
• Hands-On Leadership: While leadership is a core responsibility, you will remain deeply engaged in the codebase. You will lead by example, stepping into the IDE when necessary to resolve critical bugs, accelerate feature delivery, or provide additional capacity during high-priority sprints.
• Team Development: Mentor and guide a growing engineering team, establishing technical best practices, conducting insightful code reviews, and fostering an environment where exceptional engineers can thrive and innovate.
• Strategic Decision-Making: Make pivotal technical decisions regarding build vs. buy, refactoring priorities, and long-term architectural health. Balance velocity with technical sustainability to avoid paralysis and ensure continuous progress.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with product, design, and business stakeholders to translate high-level goals into actionable technical roadmaps. Serve as a bridge between technical and non-technical teams to align objectives and drive cohesive execution.
• Platform Scalability: Optimize performance, reliability, and cost efficiency as the platform grows. Focus on observability, CI/CD pipelines, cloud architecture, and incident response to ensure seamless operations at scale.
• AI Integration: Champion the adoption of AI-driven development tools to enhance productivity and code quality. Identify opportunities where large language models (LLMs) and AI capabilities can meaningfully improve product delivery, with a goal of achieving 80% AI-generated code over time. Develop and execute a strategic plan for responsible AI integration.
• Talent Acquisition: Play an active role in recruiting top-tier engineering talent who will shape the future of the company and contribute to its long-term success.
• Founder Mentality: Embrace an ownership mindset, taking full responsibility for technical decisions, AI roadmaps, and product engineering contributions. Drive initiatives that align with the company’s vision and accelerate its growth trajectory.

Qualifications and Experience

To excel in this role, you will bring:

• Proven Experience: A minimum of 8 years in software development, with at least 2-3 years in a leadership capacity such as Tech Lead, Staff Engineer, or Engineering Manager.
• Scalable Platform Expertise: A demonstrated track record of building and scaling marketplace and SaaS platforms, including multi-tenancy, subscription and billing systems, role-based access control, and reliable public APIs.
• Infrastructure Proficiency: Strong expertise in cloud architecture (AWS, GCP, or Azure), distributed systems, microservices, observability, and CI/CD pipelines. A keen eye for cost optimization and performance tuning is essential.
• Hands-On Engineering: A deep technical foundation with the ability to dive into any layer of the stack and deliver production-ready code when required. You are as comfortable writing code as you are leading a team.
• Startup Acumen: Prior experience at fast-growing startups, ideally from Seed to Series C stages, where you navigated rapid scaling, managed technical debt, and adapted to evolving priorities with agility.
• AI Fluency: Daily experience with AI-powered development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot. You possess well-informed opinions on where AI enhances productivity and where it may introduce limitations, and you are committed to integrating AI capabilities responsibly into the product lifecycle.
• Exceptional Communication: The ability to articulate complex technical concepts in clear, accessible language. You excel at writing design documents, explaining tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders, and engaging in productive technical debates.

Preferred Qualifications

While not mandatory, the following experiences and attributes are highly valued:

• Founder or entrepreneurial experience, or a strong founder mentality.
• Domain expertise in marketplaces and/or SaaS platforms.
• Prior experience building large-scale systems with a blend of technical depth and AI proficiency.
• Direct collaboration with founders and executive leadership teams.
