Customs Investigation Senior Specialist

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Customs Investigation Senior Specialist to join our dynamic team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for executing comprehensive customs investigation activities, particularly those involving smuggling cases that fall outside the scope of administrative resolution. Your primary responsibility will be to assess seizure reports, verify evidence, and compile thorough case files for escalation, ensuring full compliance with established laws, procedures, and operational standards. This position demands a meticulous approach, strong analytical skills, and a deep understanding of customs regulations to support the integrity of our enforcement efforts.

Key Responsibilities

• Case Assessment and Documentation: Review seizure reports and supporting documentation to verify completeness, accuracy, and adherence to regulatory requirements. Analyze case facts and available evidence to confirm the occurrence of violations based on defined investigation methodologies, documenting preliminary criminal liability and preparing structured case findings.
• Case File Preparation and Referral: Compile case files and supporting documentation required for referral to the Public Prosecution, ensuring all materials are thorough, accurate, and compliant with legal standards. Conduct suspect interviews, record statements, and ensure suspects are informed of their legal rights in accordance with established procedures.
• Legal and Procedural Compliance: Ensure timely notification to the Public Prosecution upon incident occurrence, adhering to defined protocols. Prepare formal requests for initiating customs criminal proceedings and submit them for review and approval. Maintain meticulous and organized records of all investigation activities and documentation to support legal and audit requirements.
• Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, including legal, operations, and compliance teams, to ensure all case requirements are met. Identify gaps or missing information in case documentation and proactively follow up to ensure completeness and accuracy.
• Escalation and Reporting: Escalate complex or unclear cases to higher authorities with proper justification and supporting analysis, ensuring transparency and adherence to organizational protocols. Contribute to maintaining compliance with internal policies, procedures, and audit requirements to uphold the highest standards of operational integrity.

Qualifications and Competencies

To excel in this role, you must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business Administration, or a related field. A minimum of 2–4 years of relevant experience in customs, compliance, investigation, or legal support roles is required. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in legal advisory, legal writing and policy drafting, legislation and regulations, negotiation and influence, and research and analysis. Additionally, strong collaboration and communication skills, customer focus, and a results-oriented mindset are essential for success in this position.
