Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Engineering – Multiproperty to oversee the maintenance, safety, and operational efficiency of multiple properties in the Central Area District of Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah, Saudi Arabia. This leadership role demands a strategic approach to property management, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards while maximizing financial performance and guest satisfaction. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in HVAC-R, electrical, and plumbing systems, along with proven experience in budget management, emergency response coordination, and long-term asset protection planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership and Budget Management:
    • Collaborate with property and regional engineering leadership to evaluate Engineering department performance against budget, identifying and addressing areas of concern proactively.
    • Develop and implement an engineering operating strategy aligned with the property and brand’s business objectives, ensuring financial sustainability and operational excellence.
    • Administer and oversee service contracts to meet property needs efficiently and cost-effectively.
    • Manage and control utility expenses, including heat, light, and power, while optimizing energy conservation initiatives.
    • Prepare and review financial reports, budget worksheets, and payroll progress reports to ensure adherence to financial goals.
    • Supervise construction projects to guarantee timely completion within budgetary constraints, while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Technical and Operational Oversight:
    • Oversee the maintenance of physical plant systems, including HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, water treatment, and electrical systems, in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.
    • Develop and execute long-term preventative maintenance and 10-year asset protection plans for each property to extend equipment lifespan and reduce operational risks.
    • Ensure the fire crew is fully trained on all procedures, equipment, and alarm systems to maintain safety and compliance.
    • Manage and coach the engineering leadership team to effectively control controllable expenses, such as wages, tools, equipment, and inventory.
    • Review and manage departmental capital expenditure goals, participating in the budgeting process to align with financial objectives.
  • Compliance and Safety Management:
    • Ensure strict compliance with state, local, and federal regulations, as well as property-specific policies and standards.
    • Maintain and inspect property life safety systems, including fire-fighting equipment, sprinkler systems, and alarm systems, to guarantee operational readiness.
    • Verify that all building and equipment licenses, permits, and certifications are current and properly documented for each unit.
    • Lead the emergency response team for all facility-related issues, ensuring swift and effective resolution to minimize disruptions.
  • Financial and Performance Accountability:
    • Monitor departmental controllable expenses to achieve or exceed budgeted goals, while educating staff on financial impacts and operational efficiency.
    • Prepare weekly and period-end profit and loss (P&L) critiques for each unit to assess financial performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
    • Communicate departmental goals clearly and consistently to drive desired results and foster a culture of accountability.

Candidate Profile

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications and experience:

  • Education:
    • High school diploma or GED with a minimum of 6 years of experience in engineering, maintenance, or a related field; technical training in HVAC-R, electrical, or plumbing is required.
    • OR
    • A 2-year degree from an accredited university in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or a related major, combined with at least 4 years of relevant experience; technical training in HVAC-R, electrical, or plumbing is required.
  • Core Competencies:
    • Proven leadership experience in managing multiple properties, with a strong understanding of engineering operations and financial management.
    • In-depth knowledge of HVAC-R, electrical, and plumbing systems, along with expertise in preventative maintenance and asset protection strategies.
    • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial reports and develop data-driven solutions.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, property leadership, and external vendors.
    • Commitment to safety, compliance, and operational excellence, with a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risks.
