Director of Engineering – Multi-Property Operations (Dir-Engineering -Multiprop-A)

We are seeking a seasoned and strategic Director of Engineering to oversee the comprehensive maintenance, safety, and operational efficiency of multiple properties within the Central Area District of Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah, Saudi Arabia. This pivotal leadership role demands a high level of expertise in property management, technical proficiency in HVAC-R, electrical, and plumbing systems, and a proven track record in budget management and strategic planning. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the seamless operation of all engineering functions while aligning with the property’s business objectives, regulatory compliance, and guest and employee satisfaction standards.

Key Responsibilities

The Director of Engineering will play a critical role in driving operational excellence and financial performance across multiple properties. The position requires a hands-on leader capable of managing complex engineering operations, developing and implementing maintenance strategies, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. The following core responsibilities define the scope of this role:

• Engineering Operations and Budget Management:
  • Collaborate with property and regional engineering leadership to evaluate budget performance, identify areas of concern, and propose corrective actions to ensure financial targets are met.
  • Oversee the management of physical plant operations, including HVAC-R systems, refrigeration, plumbing, water treatment, and electrical infrastructure, in strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Administer and negotiate service contracts to support property needs, ensuring cost-effective and high-quality solutions.
  • Develop and execute an engineering operating strategy that aligns with the property’s business goals, including long-term preventative maintenance and asset protection plans for each unit.
  • Monitor and control energy consumption, including heat, light, and power, to optimize operational costs while maintaining service quality.
  • Review financial reports and statements to assess engineering performance against budget, addressing potential risks proactively and communicating solutions to stakeholders.
  • Supervise construction projects to ensure timely completion within budgetary and quality guidelines.
• Compliance and Safety Leadership:
  • Ensure strict compliance with all state, local, and federal regulations, including maintaining property life safety systems such as fire-fighting equipment, sprinkler systems, and alarm systems.
  • Verify that all building and equipment licenses, permits, and certifications are current and up to date for each property under management.
  • Lead the emergency response team for facility-related issues, ensuring all staff are trained and prepared to handle critical situations.
  • Administer property policies with fairness and consistency, fostering a secure and compliant operational environment.
• Financial Performance and Profitability:
  • Manage controllable expenses, including wages, utilities, tools, equipment, and vendor agreements, to achieve or exceed budgeted goals.
  • Participate in the development of capital expenditure goals and oversee project execution to maximize return on investment.
  • Prepare and present weekly and period-end profit and loss critiques for each unit, educating staff on financial performance and operational impacts.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, ensuring alignment with broader property financial objectives.
• Team Leadership and Development:
  • Coach and mentor the engineering leadership team to enhance their ability to manage resources effectively and drive operational efficiency.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement within the engineering department.
  • Communicate departmental goals clearly and consistently to ensure alignment and achieve desired results across all properties.

Candidate Profile

To excel in this role, candidates must possess a blend of technical expertise, leadership acumen, and strategic thinking. The ideal candidate will meet the following qualifications:

• Education and Experience:
  • A high school diploma or GED, supplemented by a minimum of 6 years of experience in engineering and maintenance or a related professional field, along with technical training in HVAC-R, electrical, or plumbing systems.
  • OR
  • A 2-year degree from an accredited university in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or a related major, combined with at least 4 years of relevant experience in engineering and maintenance, including technical training in HVAC-R, electrical, or plumbing systems.
• Technical and Leadership Competencies:
  • Proven ability to manage multiple properties simultaneously, with a focus on operational efficiency and financial performance.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC-R, electrical, and plumbing systems, including preventative maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Exceptional budget management skills, with the ability to analyze financial reports and make data-driven decisions.
  • Leadership experience in a supervisory or management role, with a track record of developing and mentoring teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory compliance, safety standards, and asset protection strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
