About the Role

Alat is seeking a seasoned and strategic Director, Investment Risk to join our dynamic team based in Riyadh. This pivotal role is designed to fortify Alat’s investment risk management infrastructure, ensuring robust governance, independent oversight, and effective risk mitigation across the entire investment lifecycle. The successful candidate will play a critical role in aligning investment activities with Alat’s strategic objectives and risk appetite, providing independent risk insights to Executive Management to support informed decision-making while safeguarding the organization’s investment portfolio. Your expertise will be instrumental in enabling disciplined growth and value creation across strategically important industrial sectors, positioning Alat as a leader in advanced manufacturing and industrial investment.

Key Responsibilities

As the Director, Investment Risk, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of investment risk strategies, governance frameworks, and risk oversight processes. Your core responsibilities will include:

• Strategic Risk Leadership: Develop and execute a comprehensive investment risk strategy that aligns with Alat’s long-term objectives, ensuring robust governance and independent oversight throughout the investment lifecycle.
• Independent Risk Advisory: Provide objective risk insights and constructive challenge on investment opportunities, portfolio exposures, and strategic transactions, enabling informed decision-making by Executive Management.
• Risk Assessment & Mitigation: Conduct thorough assessments of transaction-level and portfolio-level risks, identifying potential vulnerabilities and recommending mitigation actions, including escalation protocols where necessary.
• Executive Reporting & Insights: Deliver clear, concise, and actionable risk insights and reporting to senior leadership, ensuring transparency and alignment with strategic priorities.
• Committee Support: Collaborate with investment committees and decision-making forums by offering independent risk perspectives, enhancing the quality of strategic discussions and outcomes.
• Emerging Risk Monitoring: Proactively identify and assess emerging risks across the portfolio, recommending practical improvements to strengthen risk management practices and controls.
• Risk Culture & Governance: Champion a strong risk culture by fostering awareness, accountability, and adherence to best practices in risk governance across all investment activities.

Qualifications & Experience

To excel in this role, you will bring a blend of academic excellence and extensive professional experience. The ideal candidate will possess:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Risk Management, or a related field. A Master’s degree or relevant professional certification (e.g., FRM, CFA, PRM) is highly desirable and will be considered a significant advantage.
• 12+ years of progressive experience in investment risk management, portfolio risk, investment management, or related investment environments. Prior experience within sovereign wealth funds, private equity, investment holding companies, or institutional investment settings is highly preferred.
• A deep understanding of investment governance, portfolio risk frameworks, transaction risk assessment, and risk reporting methodologies.
• Proven ability to engage senior stakeholders and provide independent, objective challenge to influence strategic decisions.
• Exceptional analytical, communication, and executive reporting skills, with the capacity to distill complex risk concepts into clear, actionable insights for leadership.
• Demonstrated independence, sound judgment, and strategic perspective, with the ability to operate autonomously while contributing to high-impact initiatives.
