Electrical Maintenance Engineer

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Electrical Maintenance Engineer to join our team at Guardian Glass, a leading global manufacturer of high-performance glass products. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the oversight, maintenance, and continuous improvement of electrical and control systems within our glass production line. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in industrial electrical systems, automation, and power distribution, with a proven ability to enhance equipment reliability, minimize unplanned downtime, and implement robust preventive and predictive maintenance strategies. Your expertise will be instrumental in ensuring the seamless operation of our coating line while driving efficiency and innovation in our electrical infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

As an Electrical Maintenance Engineer, your core responsibilities will include:

• System Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Perform comprehensive electrical maintenance on critical equipment, including magnetron sputtering systems, power supplies, PLCs, variable frequency drives (VFDs), sensors, and control panels. Diagnose and resolve electrical and electronic faults affecting glass furnaces and transport mechanisms to ensure uninterrupted production.
• Preventive and Predictive Maintenance: Develop, implement, and manage preventive maintenance (PM) schedules for all electrical systems and components on the coating line. Utilize predictive maintenance techniques to identify potential failures before they occur, thereby reducing downtime and extending equipment lifespan.
• Performance Monitoring and Root Cause Analysis: Continuously monitor electrical system performance to identify inefficiencies or anomalies. Conduct thorough root cause analysis (RCA) for chronic electrical or automation failures, and propose data-driven solutions to prevent recurrence.
• Documentation and Compliance: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation, including electrical drawings, maintenance logs, failure reports, and compliance records. Ensure all activities adhere to industry safety standards, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and relevant regulatory requirements.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with mechanical, automation, and process engineers to optimize equipment reliability, performance, and energy efficiency. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and recommend enhancements to electrical design, control logic, and system architecture.
• Spare Parts and Vendor Management: Manage the inventory of electrical spare parts, ensuring timely procurement and availability of critical components. Coordinate with vendors to resolve technical issues, source specialized equipment, and maintain strong supplier relationships.
• Safety and Operational Excellence: Uphold the highest standards of workplace safety by adhering to PPE requirements, electrical safety protocols, and emergency response procedures. Promote a culture of safety and operational excellence across the production facility.

Qualifications and Skills

To excel in this role, you must meet the following basic qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a closely related field.
• Minimum of three to five years of hands-on experience in electrical maintenance within continuous process operations, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
• In-depth knowledge of industrial electrical systems, including power distribution, control circuits, motor drives, and instrumentation.
• Proficiency in PLC programming, troubleshooting, and integration, with experience using platforms such as Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or equivalent systems.
• Ability to interpret and create electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control logic diagrams with precision.
• Strong understanding of sensors, instrumentation, and process control systems.
• Fluency in English, both written and verbal, with excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Analytical mindset with robust problem-solving abilities, capable of working independently under pressure and in rotating shifts, if required.

The following qualifications will set you apart from other candidates:

• Prior experience in the glass manufacturing industry, particularly in architectural, automotive, or solar glass production.
• Hands-on experience with vacuum coating equipment, high-voltage power supplies, and automation networks such as Profibus, Modbus, or Ethernet/IP.
• Familiarity with SCADA systems and industrial communication protocols.
• Proficiency in Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as SAP PM or Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) software.
• Certifications in electrical safety, automation, or reliability engineering are highly desirable.

Work Environment and Culture

This is a factory-based role that involves exposure to high-voltage electrical systems, vacuum environments, and heavy production machinery. The position may require working in rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as well as being on call to address emergency maintenance issues. Adherence to strict safety protocols and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) are mandatory.
