As part of our innovative ecosystem, we are seeking skilled Freelance Chatbot Developers to contribute to the Tendem project, a hybrid AI and human-driven platform designed to enhance conversational experiences across multiple messaging channels.

Your Role as an AI Pilot

In this freelance opportunity, you will assume the role of an AI Pilot—a position at Mindrift that combines technical expertise with strategic oversight. Your primary responsibility will be to collaborate with Tendem Agents, who manage repetitive tasks, while you provide specialized bot engineering skills, conversational design judgment, and rigorous quality control. The goal is to ensure that the bots you develop are robust, user-friendly, and capable of delivering seamless interactions in real-world scenarios. This part-time, fully remote role is ideal for professionals with a proven track record in building messaging bots, integrating platform APIs, and implementing sophisticated conversational logic.

Key Responsibilities

As a Freelance Chatbot Developer for the Tendem project, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and refining messaging bots across multiple platforms, including WhatsApp, Telegram, and Discord. Your work will span a variety of use cases, such as:

• Customer service automation, including FAQ handling and issue resolution
• Appointment booking and scheduling systems
• Order processing and transactional workflows
• Content delivery and personalized messaging
• Community moderation and automated notifications

Your technical tasks will include:

• Developing bots for WhatsApp (Business API / Cloud API), Telegram (Bot API), Discord, and other messaging platforms
• Designing and implementing conversational flows, dialogue states, and fallback mechanisms
• Integrating bots with Large Language Models (LLMs) such as OpenAI or Anthropic to enable natural language responses
• Connecting bots to backend services, databases, CRMs, and third-party APIs (e.g., booking systems, payment gateways, content sources)
• Managing webhooks, rate limits, and platform-specific message formats, including interactive messages, buttons, media, and templates
• Evaluating AI-generated bot code and refactoring it for correctness, reliability, and graceful error handling
• Implementing logging, monitoring, and recovery systems to maintain bot health in production environments

Requirements

Educational Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in backend development, system integration, automation, or bot development (required)
• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field is preferred

Professional Experience

We are seeking candidates with a strong foundation in bot development, messaging platform integrations, and the creation of production-ready conversational workflows. Ideal candidates will demonstrate expertise in:

• Designing and maintaining reliable, scalable bots for real-world deployment
• Working with APIs, webhooks, and backend services to create seamless integrations
• Refining AI-assisted outputs into stable, user-friendly experiences
• Problem-solving with a keen attention to detail and the ability to work independently

Technical Skills (Essential)

• At least 1 year of hands-on experience building bots for major messaging platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, Slack, or similar (required)
• Proficiency in Python or Node.js for backend bot logic
• Strong experience with REST APIs, webhooks, OAuth, and asynchronous request handling
• Experience with relational or NoSQL databases for storing conversation state and user data
• Familiarity with LLM APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic) and prompt design for conversational applications is highly advantageous
• Understanding of platform-specific limitations, message templates, and approval workflows (e.g., WhatsApp template messages)
• Experience with hosting and deployment solutions, including Docker, serverless architectures, VPS, or PaaS

Additional Requirements

• Demonstrated commitment to bot reliability, with a focus on preventing silent failures and broken workflows
• Self-directed work ethic with the ability to design and deliver complete bots independently
• Portfolio or examples of previously built bots (required)
• Upper-intermediate (B2) or higher proficiency in English

Project Commitment

This is a freelance role with estimated weekly time commitments ranging from 10 to 20 hours during active phases, depending on project requirements. The role offers flexibility and the opportunity to contribute to innovative AI-driven projects while working remotely with a global team.
