Senior Python Data Scraping Engineer (Freelance)

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Python Data Scraping Engineer to join our dynamic team on a freelance basis. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust data scraping solutions to extract, process, and deliver high-quality datasets from various online sources. Your expertise in Python and web scraping technologies will play a critical role in supporting our data-driven initiatives and ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the information we collect.

Key Responsibilities

• Data Extraction & Scraping: Develop and optimize Python-based scraping scripts to efficiently extract data from websites, APIs, and other digital platforms while adhering to legal and ethical guidelines.
• Data Processing & Cleaning: Implement data validation, cleaning, and transformation pipelines to ensure the extracted datasets are accurate, structured, and ready for analysis.
• Performance Optimization: Enhance scraping efficiency by optimizing algorithms, managing request rates, and implementing caching mechanisms to reduce latency and resource consumption.
• Error Handling & Monitoring: Design robust error-handling frameworks and monitoring systems to detect and resolve scraping failures, ensuring uninterrupted data flow.
• Compliance & Ethics: Ensure all scraping activities comply with relevant data protection regulations, website terms of service, and industry best practices to mitigate legal risks.
• Collaboration & Documentation: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists and analysts, to understand requirements and deliver scalable scraping solutions. Maintain comprehensive documentation for all developed tools and processes.
• Scalability & Maintenance: Build modular and maintainable codebases that can scale with growing data demands and adapt to changes in source websites or APIs.

Required Qualifications

• Technical Proficiency: Extensive experience with Python, particularly libraries such as BeautifulSoup, Scrapy, Selenium, and Requests. Familiarity with data processing libraries like Pandas and NumPy is highly desirable.
• Web Technologies: Strong understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and HTTP/HTTPS protocols. Experience with browser automation tools and headless browsers is a plus.
• Data Handling: Proven ability to process, clean, and structure large datasets efficiently, with attention to data integrity and quality.
• Problem-Solving: Demonstrated expertise in troubleshooting complex scraping challenges, including CAPTCHAs, IP blocking, and dynamic content rendering.
• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Freelance Experience: Prior experience working as a freelance or contract-based engineer, with a track record of delivering high-quality projects on time and within budget.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) for deploying and managing scraping solutions.
• Knowledge of distributed scraping frameworks and parallel processing techniques.
• Familiarity with database systems (e.g., SQL, NoSQL) for storing and querying scraped data.
• Understanding of machine learning or NLP techniques for advanced data extraction tasks.
