Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Consultant Neurosurgeon to join our esteemed medical team at NMC Hospitals and Clinics. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional neurosurgical care to both inpatients and outpatients while upholding the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and patient safety. The ideal candidate will demonstrate leadership, clinical excellence, and a commitment to continuous professional development within the framework of CBAHI/JCIA accreditation standards and the laws of the Ministry of Health in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Key Responsibilities

The Consultant Neurosurgeon will play a critical role in ensuring superior medical treatment, compassion, and understanding for every patient. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Patient Care and Clinical Leadership:
    • Provide high-quality neurosurgical care within the scope of your clinical privileges for both inpatients and outpatients.
    • Practice in accordance with clinically relevant and scientifically valid standards, guidelines, and criteria to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
    • Conduct regular ward rounds, either independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team, to develop comprehensive treatment plans, including pre-operative and post-operative care.
    • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic neurosurgical procedures with precision and expertise.
    • Assess and refer patients to appropriate medical facilities when necessary, while also accepting referrals for specialized neurosurgical care.
  • Emergency Response and On-Call Duties:
    • Participate actively in the department’s on-call rota to provide timely patient care and admissions.
    • Respond to emergencies, offering expert advice and hands-on intervention as required to address critical neurosurgical issues.
  • Patient Rights and Documentation:
    • Uphold and safeguard patients’ rights to security, confidentiality, and privacy at all times.
    • Maintain meticulous and accurate patient records, ensuring timely and legible documentation of all medical information.
  • Leadership and Quality Improvement:
    • Provide leadership in the organization’s performance-improvement initiatives, including the measurement, assessment, and enhancement of clinical and non-clinical processes as outlined in the Departmental Quality Plan.
    • Supervise and mentor junior medical staff, ensuring their professional growth and adherence to departmental policies.
    • Actively participate in Continuing Medical Education (CME) through hospital-based activities such as morning report meetings, grand rounds, clinical tutorials, seminars, journal clubs, and clinico-pathological conferences.
    • Engage in national and international conferences, symposia, and workshops to stay abreast of the latest advancements in neurosurgery.
  • Training and Education:
    • Contribute to the training and development of junior medical staff, nursing personnel, and technicians through structured educational programs.
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge in the field of neurosurgery and continuously upgrade your professional skills to deliver cutting-edge care.
    • Participate in committee meetings, including those focused on quality improvement, infection control, and other critical hospital initiatives.
  • Patient and Family Education:
    • Educate patients and their families on neurosurgical conditions, treatment options, and post-operative care in alignment with hospital policies and procedures.
    • Involve patients and families in the care planning process, respecting their goals, preferences, and choices while ensuring they are informed and empowered.
    • Utilize appropriate methods to promote health education and teaching, tailored to patients’ developmental levels, learning needs, cultural backgrounds, and individual situations.
    • Allocate sufficient time to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient education initiatives, documenting all efforts comprehensively.
  • Compliance and Professional Conduct:
    • Adhere strictly to departmental policies, hospital by-laws, rules, and regulations.
    • Collaborate effectively with colleagues across disciplines to foster a cohesive and patient-centered healthcare environment.
    • Perform any additional duties as assigned to support the operational and clinical objectives of the department.

Qualifications and Experience

To excel in this role, candidates must possess the following:

  • A recognized medical degree with a specialization in Neurosurgery.
  • Valid certification and licensure to practice neurosurgery in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
  • Proven experience in delivering high-quality neurosurgical care, including emergency and elective procedures.
  • Strong leadership and mentorship skills to guide junior staff and contribute to departmental training programs.
  • A commitment to continuous professional development through active participation in CME activities and research.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Adherence to ethical standards and a patient-centered approach to care.
