Safety Officer

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Safety Officer to join our dynamic team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations while fostering a culture of safety across our organization. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in engineering, coupled with specialized knowledge in occupational health and safety, and a proven track record of implementing robust safety management systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Regulatory Compliance: Monitor and enforce adherence to national and international HSE standards, including OSHA, ISO 45001, and local regulatory requirements.
• Risk Assessment & Mitigation: Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to identify potential hazards in electrical and mechanical systems, particularly in power transmission and distribution environments, and develop effective mitigation strategies.
• Training & Awareness: Design and deliver safety training programs to employees at all levels, ensuring a clear understanding of safety protocols, emergency procedures, and best practices.
• Incident Investigation: Lead thorough investigations into workplace incidents, near-misses, and accidents to determine root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Safety Audits & Inspections: Perform regular safety audits and inspections of facilities, equipment, and work processes to identify non-compliance issues and recommend improvements.
• Policy Development: Collaborate with management to develop, update, and implement HSE policies and procedures tailored to the organization’s operational needs.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a liaison between the organization, regulatory bodies, and external safety consultants to ensure seamless communication and compliance.

Qualifications & Experience

• Education: A Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g., Electrical, Mechanical) is required. A NEBOSH Certificate or Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety is mandatory.
• Professional Background: Minimum of five years of hands-on experience in one of the following areas:
  • Electrical Engineering: Specializing in power systems, including transmission and distribution, with a focus on safety management.
  • Mechanical Engineering: With a strong emphasis on health and safety practices in mechanical operations and systems.
• Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of HSE regulations, industry standards, and best practices, with the ability to apply this expertise in a practical, real-world setting.
• Soft Skills: Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey safety protocols and engage with diverse stakeholders. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address complex safety challenges.
