This pivotal role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the future of Saudi Arabia’s mining sector while leading a dynamic team in a cutting-edge industrial environment. The successful candidate will play a critical role in shaping the maintenance strategy, ensuring operational excellence, and driving reliability-centered maintenance practices for a facility that operates 365 days a year.

Key Responsibilities

The Maintenance Manager will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational oversight to the maintenance department, encompassing all critical systems within the recycling plant, including scrap processing, delacquering, melting and casting, homogenizing, sawing, and utility systems. The role involves a comprehensive scope of responsibilities, including:

  • Leadership and Strategy Development: Establish and implement a robust maintenance strategy, including equipment criticality assessments, preventive maintenance plans, and a spare parts philosophy tailored to the new recycling equipment. Develop and populate the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to ensure seamless tracking and management of maintenance activities.
  • Team Development and Operational Readiness: Build and lead the maintenance organization from the ground up, ensuring full operational readiness prior to the plant’s first hot metal production. This includes recruiting, training, and developing a high-performing team capable of sustaining continuous operations.
  • Asset Management and Budget Oversight: Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of all plant assets, ensuring compliance with regulatory and corporate standards. Develop annual maintenance plans and departmental budgets, monitor expenditures, and manage variances to ensure cost-effective operations without compromising reliability or safety.
  • Contract and Inventory Management: Oversee maintenance service contracts and ensure efficient control of maintenance warehouse inventories, optimizing spare parts availability while minimizing excess stock and associated costs.
  • Safety, Environmental, and Compliance Leadership: Champion Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) as the top priority, with a particular focus on mitigating risks associated with molten metal handling, combustion furnaces, and delacquering processes. Conduct regular risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations to foster a culture of safety and compliance.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Foster strong, collaborative relationships between the Maintenance and Production departments to align maintenance activities with production goals. Standardize maintenance programs in accordance with the plant’s maintenance philosophy and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Lead, mentor, and develop superintendents, supervisors, and the broader maintenance team. Focus on competency development, new-hire integration, and fostering a high-performance culture that supports operational excellence.
  • Continuous Improvement and Problem-Solving: Drive root cause failure analysis and implement corrective actions to enhance equipment reliability and reduce downtime. Provide strategic input to improve overall plant performance and operational efficiency.

Qualifications and Experience

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications and possess relevant experience:

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field is required. A Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering background is highly preferred.
  • Professional Experience: Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in maintenance management, with a proven track record in leading maintenance teams within industrial or manufacturing environments. Experience in a greenfield project setup, commissioning, or maintenance readiness is strongly preferred.
  • Technical and Leadership Skills: Demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing maintenance strategies, managing budgets, and leading teams in a continuous 365-day operation. Strong knowledge of CMMS systems, reliability-centered maintenance, and spare parts management is essential.
  • Safety and Compliance: A deep commitment to safety and environmental stewardship, with a proven ability to lead EHS initiatives, conduct risk assessments, and ensure compliance with local and international regulations.
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships across departments and stakeholders. Ability to manage labor relations, drive continuous improvement, and foster a culture of accountability and excellence.
