Engineering Specialist

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Engineering Specialist – Mechanical (Static & Rotating Equipment) to provide technical leadership in the design, construction, commissioning, and ongoing support of gas processing facilities. This critical role will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, integrity, and optimal performance of static and rotating equipment while contributing to capital projects, maintenance initiatives, and operational excellence. The ideal candidate will possess extensive expertise in oil and gas facilities, a deep understanding of mechanical engineering principles, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to deliver safe, efficient, and cost-effective engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

The Engineering Specialist will serve as a technical authority, providing day-to-day support for operations and maintenance teams by diagnosing and resolving issues related to static and rotating equipment and mechanical systems. Responsibilities include:

• Technical Leadership: Offer expert guidance on the design, construction, commissioning, and maintenance of mechanical systems, ensuring alignment with industry standards and best practices.
• Engineering Design & Review: Develop comprehensive engineering design packages for new installations, modifications, and facility upgrades. Review engineering studies, project proposals, and detailed design documents to verify technical compliance, quality, and adherence to applicable codes and standards.
• Equipment & System Support: Participate in equipment testing, commissioning, start-up activities, and Turnaround & Inspection (T&I) programs to ensure operational readiness and reliability.
• Documentation & Compliance: Maintain and update critical engineering documentation, including technical drawings, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), isometric drawings, and other design-related records. Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) requirements, engineering standards, and industry codes.
• Performance Optimization: Evaluate system performance to identify opportunities for energy efficiency, operational improvements, and cost reductions. Recommend technical and economic enhancements to enhance facility reliability and performance.
• Innovation & Technology: Support the evaluation, testing, and implementation of emerging technologies and engineering solutions to drive continuous improvement in facility operations.
• Asset Integrity & Reliability: Lead technical studies, feasibility assessments, and engineering evaluations to support asset integrity initiatives, reliability improvement programs, and strategic business objectives.
• Mentorship & Collaboration: Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to multidisciplinary teams, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and professional development. Collaborate closely with project, operations, maintenance, inspection, and reliability teams to achieve project goals and operational excellence.

Requirements & Qualifications

To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Petroleum Engineering from an accredited institution. A Master’s degree is considered a valuable asset.
• Professional Certification: Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) certification is preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in oil and gas or industrial processing facilities, with a strong background in gas processing or shale gas facilities. Experience with modular skid-mounted process units is advantageous.
• Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of mechanical engineering principles related to static and rotating equipment, including the design, specification, selection, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of pressure vessels, separators, heat exchangers, storage tanks, reactors, fired heaters, boilers, and related systems.
• Industry Standards: Proficiency in industry standards and codes, particularly ASME and API standards, and familiarity with engineering software such as CAESAR II, HTRI, or equivalent tools.
• Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical abilities, troubleshooting expertise, and a methodical approach to resolving complex engineering challenges.
• Communication & Leadership: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear technical reports, presentations, and documentation. Demonstrated leadership in managing technical priorities and supporting large-scale engineering projects.
• Safety & Compliance: A strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement, with a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risks.
