Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Transportation Engineer with deep expertise in macroscopic and microscopic traffic modeling to spearhead comprehensive traffic and mobility studies in complex urban and corridor environments. In this pivotal role, you will oversee end-to-end modeling workflows, transforming technical data into strategic insights that inform critical planning, design, and operational decisions for both public and private sector clients. Your work will directly contribute to the development of sustainable, efficient, and people-centric transport solutions in alignment with local and international best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Model Development & Management: Lead the creation, calibration, and validation of multi-scale traffic models, utilizing PTV VISUM for strategic demand and network assignments, and PTV VISSIM for detailed operational simulations and microsimulation of corridors, junctions, and transit priority schemes. Establish robust modeling methodologies, quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) protocols, and scenario frameworks that adhere to local regulatory standards and global industry best practices.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Define comprehensive data requirements and oversee meticulous data collection initiatives, including traffic counts, origin-destination (OD) matrices, GPS/FCD, AVL/APC, signal timing, and travel times. Process and reconcile diverse datasets, develop base-year models, and apply rigorous calibration and validation procedures using key performance indicators (KPIs) such as GEH, volume-to-capacity (V/C) ratios, delay metrics, and travel time reliability.
  • Scenario Analysis & Performance Evaluation: Construct and assess a wide range of scenarios encompassing masterplans, land-use transformations, network enhancements, transit priority initiatives, intelligent transport systems (ITS) strategies, demand management policies, and construction traffic management plans. Evaluate performance using metrics such as level of service (LOS), queue lengths, person-throughput, emissions/energy proxies, and reliability indicators. Deliver clear, actionable insights and mitigation strategies to guide decision-making.
  • Collaborative Design & Operations: Collaborate closely with roadway and transit design teams to evaluate geometric alternatives, signal control strategies (including fixed-time, actuated, and adaptive systems), bus priority measures, and multimodal operations. Develop signal timing plans, coordinate with control centers and regulatory authorities, and support temporary traffic management and staging plans for construction and special events.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting: Act as a liaison between client authorities, developers, and multidisciplinary teams to define project objectives, present findings, and secure necessary approvals. Produce high-quality technical reports, executive summaries, and visualizations that effectively communicate complex modeling results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring alignment and informed decision-making.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Knowledge Sharing: Apply guidelines from local authorities such as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), as well as international references including the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM), Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), and World Road Association (PIARC). Contribute to the development of internal standards, templates, and knowledge-sharing initiatives. Mentor junior modelers and engineers, review deliverables, and foster a culture of continuous improvement within the team.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field; a Master’s degree is highly desirable.
  • Professional Experience: Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in transportation planning and traffic engineering, with a strong emphasis on modeling and simulation.
  • Technical Proficiency: Extensive, practical experience with PTV VISUM (strategic/macroscopic modeling) and PTV VISSIM (microscopic modeling), including network coding, demand modeling, signal optimization, calibration, validation, and scripting/customization.
  • Regional Expertise: Demonstrated experience delivering transportation studies in Saudi Arabia or the GCC region, with a thorough understanding of local regulatory processes, approvals, and operational environments.
  • Analytical & Communication Skills: Strong analytical capabilities to interpret complex data, coupled with exceptional written and verbal communication skills to present findings to diverse audiences.
