Position Overview

Key Responsibilities
The Market Analyst will be tasked with the following core responsibilities:
- Real-Time and Periodic Market Surveillance:
- Monitor daily trading sessions and investment activities using advanced automated surveillance systems to identify unusual or suspicious trading patterns.
- Analyze order books, transaction flows, and executed trades to ensure strict adherence to financial regulations and market rules by all participants.
- Detect anomalies such as market manipulation, insider trading, wash trading, spoofing, and other forms of misconduct.
- In-Depth Analysis and Preliminary Investigations:
- Conduct thorough financial and technical analyses to reconstruct trading scenarios, assess the behavior of investment portfolios, and identify potential violations.
- Collect and analyze historical data to uncover hidden trends, correlations, and irregularities that may indicate market abuse.
- Cross-reference corporate announcements, disclosures, and news with trading activities to detect information leaks or front-running activities.
- Market Risk and Trend Analysis:
- Track and analyze movements in market indices, sectors, and equities to identify factors contributing to volatility or abnormal trading volumes.
- Monitor macroeconomic events, regulatory changes, and industry developments to assess their impact on market dynamics.
- Provide actionable insights to mitigate risks and enhance market stability.
- Technical Reporting and Documentation:
- Draft comprehensive surveillance reports detailing detected violations, evidentiary findings, and investigative conclusions.
- Prepare periodic statistical reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly) summarizing market trends, surveillance metrics, and emerging regulatory risks for stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
- Ensure all reports are objective, technically precise, and structured to support legal and enforcement actions.
- System and Process Enhancement:
- Collaborate with IT and compliance teams to refine and upgrade automated surveillance alerts, logic, and monitoring systems.
- Contribute to the optimization of detection capabilities by reducing false positives and enhancing the accuracy of surveillance tools.
- Stay abreast of technological advancements in market surveillance to implement best practices and innovative solutions.
Qualifications and Experience
To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, or a related quantitative discipline such as Mathematics, Statistics, or Engineering.
- Advanced degrees or professional certifications (e.g., CFA, FRM) are considered advantageous.
- Professional Experience:
- 3 to 8 years of progressive experience in market surveillance, market risk management, financial analysis, or trading oversight.
- Proven track record in roles within regulatory bodies, investment banks, capital market institutions, or brokerage firms.
- Hands-on experience with market surveillance software (e.g., SMARTS, Nasdaq’s SMARTS, or equivalent platforms) is highly preferred.
- Technical and Analytical Skills:
- Strong proficiency in handling large datasets (Big Data) and extracting actionable insights using analytical tools such as SQL, Python, or business intelligence platforms.
- Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to create complex models, pivot tables, and data visualizations.
- Familiarity with financial instruments, including equities, debt instruments, derivatives, and their associated trading mechanisms.
- Regulatory and Compliance Knowledge:
- Comprehensive understanding of capital market regulations, including but not limited to insider trading laws, market manipulation statutes, and disclosure requirements.
- Awareness of global regulatory frameworks and the ability to interpret and apply them in a practical context.
- Soft Skills:
- Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to connect disparate data points and identify patterns.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills to articulate complex findings in clear, structured reports for both technical and non-technical audiences.
