Field Engineering - Welding

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Field Engineering - Welding professional to join our dynamic team at the Ar Rjum Project, a cutting-edge greenfield gold mining initiative located in the Central Arabian Gold Region. This role is pivotal in ensuring the successful execution of welding operations, adherence to industry standards, and the delivery of high-quality construction outcomes. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise in welding engineering, nondestructive examination (NDE), and post-weld heat treatment (PWHT), while demonstrating a commitment to safety, precision, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

As a Field Welding Engineer, you will be responsible for leading, implementing, and maintaining global construction field welding programs. Your core duties will include:

• Program Leadership: Develop, implement, and oversee the Bechtel Field Welding Program, ensuring compliance with industry codes, client specifications, and internal standards. Act as the Lead Field Welding Engineer on large-scale projects when required.
• Technical Support & Quality Assurance: Provide specialized welding engineering expertise to construction teams, addressing defects, behaviors, and issues before final inspection. Collaborate with discipline superintendents to resolve pre- and post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) challenges and NDE requirements.
• Laboratory & Material Management: Oversee the welding test lab, rod room, and heat treatment programs. Ensure proper issuance of weld filler materials to meet Bechtel and code requirements, while maintaining welder qualifications and stamps.
• Non-Destructive Examination (NDE): Assist in planning and coordinating NDE activities to support construction schedules. For candidates with NDE Level III certification, responsibilities include maintaining and implementing Bechtel’s Nondestructive Examination Qualification and Certification program, developing and qualifying NDE procedures, and ensuring adherence to specialized standards.
• Documentation & Compliance: Perform continuous inspections and documentation of all welding, NDE, and PWHT activities. Ensure all processes align with project specifications, Bechtel procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Education: A bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) in Welding Engineering, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Alternatively, 12-14 years of relevant industry experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Experience: Minimum 8-10 years of relevant welding engineering experience, with a proven track record in large-scale construction projects. For PWHT Coordinator roles, 12-14 years of hands-on experience in post-weld heat treatment is required.
• Certifications: NDE Level III certification is highly desirable for candidates specializing in nondestructive examination. Proficiency in pre/PWHT (PHT-2) and welding procedures/standards is essential.
• Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of welding codes (e.g., ASME, AWS, API), welder qualification processes, and heat treatment methodologies. Familiarity with Bechtel’s welding programs and project execution frameworks is a plus.
• Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and the capacity to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Strong communication skills are critical for liaising with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
