Opportunity: Interim IT Project Manager – East London (Hybrid)

A prominent Local Authority in East London is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Interim IT Project Manager to oversee the successful delivery of critical projects aligned with the organisation’s Technology Roadmap. The role will focus on the implementation and optimisation of Modern Workplace technologies, including Microsoft 365 (M365), Identity Management, Endpoint Management, and SharePoint Online. This is a high-impact, contract-based position offering a competitive daily rate of £500 via an Umbrella arrangement, with hybrid working flexibility.

Key Responsibilities

As the Interim IT Project Manager, you will be responsible for leading the end-to-end delivery of transformative technology projects that enhance operational efficiency and user experience within the organisation. Your core duties will include:

• Project Leadership: Managing the full lifecycle of M365 and Modern Workplace projects, from initial planning and scoping through to implementation, testing, and deployment, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and organisational standards.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including IT, business units, and external vendors, to foster alignment, manage expectations, and drive collective ownership of project outcomes.
• Project Governance: Developing and maintaining robust project plans, budgets, timelines, and risk registers, while providing transparent and insightful governance reporting to senior leadership and relevant boards to support informed decision-making.
• Compliance & Best Practices: Ensuring all project activities adhere to organisational governance frameworks, architectural standards, and M365 best practices, with a strong emphasis on security, scalability, and sustainability.
• Change Management: Facilitating user adoption through structured change management initiatives, including training, communication strategies, and support mechanisms to ensure seamless transition and long-term utilisation of new technologies.
• Issue Resolution: Proactively identifying and managing project risks, dependencies, and escalations, providing data-driven recommendations to resolve complex delivery challenges and mitigate potential disruptions.

Essential Requirements

To excel in this role, you will bring a proven track record of delivering IT projects within complex environments, with a specific focus on Microsoft 365 and Modern Workplace solutions. The ideal candidate will possess:

• Technical Expertise: Hands-on experience managing projects involving M365, SharePoint Online, Identity Management, and Endpoint Management technologies, with a deep understanding of their integration and operational capabilities.
• Project Management Proficiency: A strong background in IT project management methodologies, tools, and frameworks, coupled with the ability to develop and execute detailed project plans that meet business and technical requirements.
• Stakeholder & Governance Skills: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, enabling you to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels, from technical teams to executive leadership, while maintaining rigorous governance and compliance standards.
• Risk & Change Management: Demonstrated expertise in identifying project risks, dependencies, and mitigation strategies, alongside a proactive approach to change management to drive user adoption and organisational transformation.
• Sector Experience (Desirable): Prior experience within Local Government or the Public Sector, where understanding of regulatory frameworks, public accountability, and service delivery priorities can add significant value.
