Position Overview
Amazon is seeking a dedicated and proactive Workplace, Health and Safety (WHS) Officer to join our dynamic team. In this critical role, you will collaborate closely with the Site Operations team to implement and enforce Amazon’s safety policies while ensuring full compliance with all relevant local and regional regulations. Your expertise in lean principles and kaizens will drive continuous improvement initiatives, reducing conditional and ergonomic risks to create a safer, healthier working environment for our associates. Key Responsibilities
The WHS Officer will play a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing workplace safety standards. Your core responsibilities will include:
- Policy Implementation and Compliance: Provide expert guidance and oversight to ensure adherence to all Amazon WHS standards and policies. Measure site performance against published safety requirements, identifying and addressing deficiencies through actionable improvement plans.
- Safety Metrics and Incident Analysis: Analyze safety metrics and review weekly and monthly incident trends to allocate resources effectively to high-risk areas. Ensure thorough incident investigations and timely closure of corrective and preventive actions.
- Site Safety Audits: Conduct frequent safety audits to identify non-compliant equipment or processes, implementing solutions to eliminate risks and prevent injuries. Audit record-keeping practices to ensure alignment with global WHS standards and local regulations.
- Training and Development: Lead and mentor safety associates within your assigned facilities. Ensure site leadership and associates are well-versed in their safety responsibilities and trained in all relevant policies. Audit the quality, delivery, and effectiveness of required safety training programs.
- PPE and Emergency Preparedness: Oversee PPE inventory management in coordination with procurement teams to ensure compliance. Collaborate with facility teams to maintain preventive maintenance of fire protection and emergency equipment. Ensure basic fire-fighting and first aid training requirements are met.
- Process Improvement: Utilize lean principles, kaizens, and data-driven methodologies to identify process inefficiencies and implement sustainable improvements. Foster a culture of safety excellence through proactive risk mitigation and continuous enhancement of workplace standards.
Qualifications and Skills
To thrive in this role, you will bring the following qualifications and attributes:
- Education and Certification: A certification in NEBOSH or IOSH is required. Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, is essential for effective communication with stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience: A minimum of two years of progressive experience in WHS or environmental programs within manufacturing, production, or service operations is preferred. Experience in data analysis, root cause identification, and process improvement methodologies such as Six Sigma or lean manufacturing is highly desirable.
- Technical and Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret safety data, identify trends, and develop actionable insights to drive safety improvements. Experience in emergency response and familiarity with regulatory compliance frameworks are advantageous.
- Leadership and Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to build trust and influence change within the Operations team. Capability to deliver clear, concise, and consistent safety messaging, both verbally and in writing, to inspire a culture of safety awareness.
- Flexibility and Adaptability: Willingness to work flexible shifts, including days and nights, to accommodate operational needs. Deep understanding of local and regional safety regulations and company policies is critical.
