SMO Execution Manager

About the Role

The SMO Execution Manager plays a pivotal role in driving the successful implementation of the organization’s strategic initiatives. This position is responsible for ensuring that all strategic programs are executed in alignment with the company’s objectives, governance standards, and delivery timelines. The SMO Execution Manager will oversee the implementation of these initiatives, monitor performance, manage execution risks, and collaborate closely with business units to guarantee the realization of strategic goals. By maintaining a structured execution framework and fostering cross-functional alignment, this role ensures that the organization remains on track to achieve its long-term vision.

Key Responsibilities

• Strategic Initiative Leadership: Lead the execution and monitoring of the organization’s strategic initiatives and transformation programs, ensuring they are delivered on time and within scope.
• Execution Framework Development: Develop and maintain the Strategic Management Office (SMO) execution framework, methodologies, and governance processes to streamline strategy implementation.
• Progress Tracking and Milestone Management: Monitor the progress of strategic initiatives, ensuring that milestones, deliverables, and timelines are met to drive accountability and results.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with business units and project owners to resolve execution challenges, remove delivery obstacles, and foster a culture of accountability and collaboration.
• Executive Reporting and Communication: Prepare executive dashboards, strategy execution reports, and presentations for senior management and executive committees to provide clear visibility into performance and progress.
• Performance Monitoring and KPI Tracking: Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), strategic objectives, and initiative performance against approved targets to ensure continuous alignment with organizational goals.
• Risk Management and Mitigation: Identify execution risks, dependencies, and bottlenecks, and develop and recommend mitigation plans to minimize disruptions and ensure smooth delivery.
• Governance and Portfolio Oversight: Facilitate governance meetings, portfolio review sessions, and strategy execution committees to ensure transparency, compliance, and alignment with strategic priorities.
• Budget and Priority Alignment: Ensure that strategic initiatives are aligned with organizational priorities and budgets to maximize resource efficiency and ROI.
• Benefits Realization Support: Measure the outcomes and impact of strategic initiatives to support benefits realization and demonstrate value to stakeholders.
• Process Improvement and Best Practices: Promote best practices in strategy execution, portfolio management, and performance monitoring to drive continuous improvement across the organization.
• Framework Enhancement: Drive the continuous improvement of SMO processes, reporting mechanisms, and governance frameworks to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Qualifications and Experience

To excel in this role, candidates must possess the following qualifications and experience:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Strategic Management, Engineering, Finance, Project Management, or a related field.
• A minimum of 6–8 years of relevant experience in strategic execution, portfolio management, project management, or a closely related discipline.
• Proven experience in leading strategic initiatives, managing cross-functional teams, and driving organizational change.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and translate insights into actionable strategies.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels, from executives to operational teams.
• Proficiency in project management tools, strategic planning frameworks, and performance monitoring systems.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and deliver results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
