Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic-thinking Senior Legal Manager to lead our Legal Affairs function. In this pivotal role, you will serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing expert legal counsel to safeguard the organization’s interests while enabling sustainable business growth and operational excellence. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of corporate law, regulatory compliance, and risk management, coupled with exceptional leadership abilities to guide the legal team and support critical business initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Legal Manager will be responsible for overseeing a broad spectrum of legal activities, including but not limited to:
- Strategic Legal Leadership: Provide high-level legal guidance to executive leadership, aligning legal strategies with business objectives to drive informed decision-making and mitigate potential risks.
- Contract Management: Lead the review, drafting, negotiation, and execution of commercial agreements, contracts, and legal documents, ensuring alignment with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
- Compliance and Governance: Ensure adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies, while developing and maintaining robust governance frameworks to uphold corporate integrity.
- Risk Management: Identify, assess, and proactively mitigate legal and regulatory risks across the organization, implementing strategies to protect the company’s assets and reputation.
- Dispute Resolution and Litigation: Manage legal disputes, litigation, arbitration, and coordinate with external legal counsel to resolve conflicts efficiently and cost-effectively.
- Corporate Transactions: Provide comprehensive legal support for mergers, acquisitions, partnerships, and strategic initiatives, including conducting legal due diligence and ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Policy Development: Design and implement legal policies, procedures, and governance frameworks to standardize practices and enhance operational efficiency.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Advise on labor law, corporate law, commercial law, procurement, and data protection matters, collaborating closely with procurement, business units, and other departments to align legal strategies with operational needs.
- Intellectual Property and Data Protection: Oversee intellectual property matters, confidentiality agreements, and data protection requirements to safeguard the organization’s innovations and sensitive information.
- Budget and External Counsel Management: Manage the legal budget and oversee relationships with external legal service providers, ensuring cost-effective and high-quality legal support.
- Team Leadership and Development: Mentor and develop the Legal Affairs team, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous professional growth.
Qualifications and Experience
To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) is required. A Master’s degree in Law (LLM) or an equivalent advanced qualification is highly preferred.
- Professional Experience: A minimum of 8–10 years of progressive legal experience, with a proven track record in a corporate or commercial legal environment. Experience in managing legal teams and handling complex transactions is essential.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong expertise in corporate law, commercial law, labor law, regulatory compliance, and contract management. Familiarity with intellectual property and data protection laws is a plus.
- Leadership and Communication: Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders, coupled with outstanding written and verbal communication abilities.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: A strategic mindset with the capacity to assess risks, identify opportunities, and develop innovative solutions to complex legal challenges.
