Role Summary

AstraZeneca is pioneering advancements in rare disease care across Saudi Arabia, where over 7,000 rare diseases have been identified, yet fewer than 1% have approved treatments. Driven by our mission to accelerate diagnosis, expand access, and improve outcomes for patients and families affected by rare conditions, we are seeking a dedicated Medical Advisor – Rare Diseases Hematology to play a pivotal role in translating strategic vision into tangible field medical actions. This position will focus on enabling early diagnosis, generating robust evidence, and ensuring equitable access to life-changing therapies for patients in need.

As a Rare Disease Medical Advisor, you will serve as a scientific and operational linchpin, responsible for executing the Rare Disease Medical Plan in alignment with the Therapeutic Area (TA) Medical Lead. Your role will encompass driving scientific engagement, medical education, evidence support, and insight generation to ensure that AstraZeneca’s rare disease hematology portfolio is positioned for success. You will act as a trusted advisor to healthcare professionals, centers of excellence, and cross-functional teams, ensuring that science, ethics, and patient needs remain central to every initiative. This role demands a deep understanding of therapeutic areas, exceptional scientific acumen, and the ability to bridge field insights with broader business and medical strategies.

Key Responsibilities

Field Medical Excellence

  • Execute the Medical Affairs Plan in close collaboration with the TA Medical Lead and cross-functional brand teams to ensure alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Deliver high-impact scientific exchange with healthcare professionals (HCPs) and key decision-makers to support the appropriate and optimal use of AstraZeneca’s rare disease hematology medicines.
  • Drive the implementation of disease education initiatives, diagnostic programs, and patient identification projects in partnership with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead launch readiness and lifecycle management activities for assigned rare disease hematology indications, ensuring seamless integration of medical and commercial strategies.
  • Dedicate 60-70% of your time to field medical interactions and activities, fostering meaningful engagement with the medical community.

Scientific Engagement and External Collaboration

  • Cultivate and maintain strong peer-to-peer relationships with Key External Experts (KEEs), academic institutions, and referral centers to advance medical understanding and improve patient management practices.
  • Organize, lead, and present at scientific meetings, advisory boards, and symposia as a recognized subject-matter expert in rare diseases and hematology.
  • Contribute to speaker training programs, Continuing Medical Education (CME) partnerships, and scientific initiatives that align with AstraZeneca’s medical strategy and local healthcare priorities.
  • Collect, analyze, and communicate scientific insights to inform local strategy, identify gaps in care, and uncover new opportunities for data generation or access enhancement.

Evidence Generation and Data Dissemination

  • Support the planning, execution, and operationalization of local studies, registries, and real-world evidence initiatives to generate critical data that strengthens the medical and commercial value proposition of AstraZeneca’s rare disease hematology portfolio.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to disseminate scientific findings through peer-reviewed publications, congress presentations, and educational materials tailored to the needs of healthcare professionals and patients.
  • Contribute to brand strategy development by providing evidence-based insights that inform market access, reimbursement, and clinical adoption strategies.
