Global Safety Specialist

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Global Safety Specialist to join our Corporate Safety Department. This specialist-level role is designed for an individual with a Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant field, complemented by additional safety education, professional certifications, or equivalent field experience. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in safety program development and implementation, with a proven track record of enhancing workplace safety standards and protocols.

Key Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of this role is to provide expert support to the Vice President of Global Safety in the management and optimization of the Corporate Safety Program. The Global Safety Specialist will play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with global safety regulations, identifying potential hazards, and implementing proactive measures to mitigate risks across all operational sites. Key duties include:

• Program Development and Enhancement: Collaborate with leadership to design, refine, and execute comprehensive safety programs that align with industry best practices and regulatory requirements. This includes conducting thorough risk assessments, developing safety policies, and establishing performance metrics to track progress.
• Compliance and Auditing: Monitor and ensure adherence to international, federal, state, and local safety regulations. Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify gaps in safety protocols and recommend corrective actions to maintain compliance and reduce workplace incidents.
• Training and Awareness: Develop and deliver safety training programs tailored to diverse operational environments. Foster a culture of safety awareness by engaging employees at all levels, promoting safe work practices, and ensuring that safety protocols are clearly communicated and understood.
• Incident Investigation and Reporting: Lead investigations into safety incidents, near-misses, and hazardous conditions. Analyze root causes, document findings, and implement corrective measures to prevent recurrence. Prepare detailed reports for senior management and regulatory bodies as required.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with various departments, including operations, human resources, and legal, to integrate safety considerations into all business processes. Serve as a liaison between global teams to ensure consistent safety standards are upheld across all regions.
• Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of emerging safety trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes. Recommend innovative solutions to enhance safety performance and drive continuous improvement in the organization’s safety culture.

Qualifications and Experience

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• A Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field. Additional safety certifications, such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST), or equivalent designations, are highly desirable.
• A minimum of five years of progressive experience in safety management, preferably within a global or multinational organization. Experience in developing and implementing safety programs, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring regulatory compliance is essential.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex safety data, identify trends, and develop actionable insights. Proficiency in safety management software and Microsoft Office Suite is required.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization. A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to fostering a culture of safety are critical.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed to support global safety initiatives and conduct on-site assessments.
