Your Role and Responsibilities
As a Senior Planning Engineer, you will be entrusted with the following key responsibilities to ensure the success of large-scale projects:
- Strategic Planning and Scheduling: Develop, implement, and maintain robust cost control and planning/scheduling functions for one or more major projects, including high-profile hospitality initiatives. Your expertise will be instrumental in creating and refining critical path logic networks, bar charts, and project control systems tailored to project-specific requirements.
- Problem Resolution and Analysis: Provide expert guidance and direction to resolve complex project control challenges. Analyze, evaluate, and forecast project status against established baselines, assessing the impact of design changes, construction delays, or schedule slippages to proactively mitigate risks.
- Stakeholder Communication: Serve as a liaison between project teams, company management, and clients by delivering clear, concise status reports on schedule performance. Your ability to translate technical data into actionable insights will ensure alignment and transparency across all stakeholders.
- Team Leadership and Mentorship: Supervise and mentor lower-level Project Control Engineers or Specialists, providing technical direction and performance reviews. Collaborate with senior project control staff to assess staffing needs and optimize team capabilities for project success.
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Leverage historical performance data to establish realistic benchmarks for future planning and forecasting. Customize project control systems to enhance efficiency and adaptability, ensuring projects remain on track and within budget.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to understand and apply industry-specific terminology, concepts, and relationships. Your interdisciplinary approach will bridge gaps and foster cohesive project execution.
Qualifications and Skills
To excel in this role, you will bring the following qualifications and skills:
- Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience) with a minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience in project controls, planning, or scheduling.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong foundational knowledge in electrical, mechanical, civil, or a related engineering discipline. Proficient in Project Controls software and Microsoft Office Suite, with the ability to adapt to evolving technological tools.
- Leadership and Supervision: Experience in providing technical direction to lower-level employees and conducting performance reviews. Ability to collaborate effectively with senior project control staff to address staffing and resource needs.
- Communication and Collaboration: Exceptional interpersonal skills to engage with internal teams across all project levels and external stakeholders, including clients, suppliers, and government agencies. Your ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely is essential.
