Senior Medical Technologist

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Medical Technologist to lead and oversee the operations of a specialized subsection within our laboratory. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and accurate execution of laboratory procedures while maintaining the highest standards of quality, compliance, and safety. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership capabilities, technical expertise, and a commitment to continuous improvement in laboratory practices.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Medical Technologist will play a critical role in managing the daily workflow and operations of the laboratory subsection. Your responsibilities will include:

• Workforce and Workflow Management: Organize and optimize the day-to-day operations of the subsection, ensuring all tasks are completed promptly and efficiently. Assign staff responsibilities to maximize productivity and maintain seamless workflow.
• Information Dissemination and Systems Management: Serve as a key liaison for disseminating critical information to subordinate staff. Maintain and manage the computerized Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) to ensure accurate and timely reporting of laboratory results.
• Supply Chain and Inventory Oversight: Ensure the subsection maintains optimal levels of supplies to provide uninterrupted services. Develop and maintain an efficient ordering and supply inventory system to support continuous operations.
• Methodology and Equipment Evaluation: Assist in the development and implementation of new methodologies and the evaluation of advanced laboratory equipment. Update and maintain policy and procedure manuals in accordance with regulatory guidelines and best practices.
• Quality Control and Assurance: Perform routine analyses, tests, and procedures in strict adherence to established laboratory standards. Oversee quality control measures within the subsection and actively participate in the section’s Quality Assurance programs. Investigate incident reports and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Equipment Maintenance and Documentation: Maintain detailed repair logs and records for all equipment within the subsection. Ensure proper operation, maintenance, and calibration of equipment to uphold laboratory standards and accreditation requirements.
• Employee Development and Training: Support the section supervisor in conducting ongoing employee performance appraisals. Provide mentorship, counseling, and guidance to subordinates to enhance their performance and professional growth. Orient, train, and educate lower-graded personnel, healthcare staff, students, and residents. Assist in the evaluation of potential employment candidates.
• Safety and Compliance: Implement and maintain rigorous laboratory safety procedures and practices. Ensure compliance with all section policies, procedures, and protocols, as well as adherence to the section’s quality improvement program in accordance with CBAHI, JCI, CAP, SFDA, and other relevant accreditation standards. Follow all hospital-related policies and procedures diligently.
• Continuous Professional Development: Participate in self and peer education, training, and development initiatives to stay abreast of advancements in medical technology and laboratory practices.
• Additional Duties: Perform any other related duties as assigned, including weekend, night shift, and on-call coverage to ensure comprehensive laboratory services.

Qualifications and Requirements

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

• Education: A master’s or bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Sciences is required.
• Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of related experience is required for candidates with a master’s degree, or four (4) years with a bachelor’s degree.
• Technical Proficiency: Strong practical experience with clinical chemistry analyzers, quality control processes, method validation, and instrument troubleshooting is essential.
• Accreditation Knowledge: Familiarity with laboratory accreditation standards, including CAP, CBAHI, and other relevant agencies, as well as experience with laboratory quality management systems.
• Validation and Testing: Proven experience in conducting validation/verification studies and proficiency testing to ensure laboratory accuracy and reliability.
