About the Role

Are you passionate about transforming data into actionable insights that drive business growth and innovation? Do you thrive in a dynamic environment where data is not just a byproduct but a strategic asset? If you are a visionary leader with a passion for building high-performing teams and shaping the future of data-driven decision-making, webook.com invites you to join us as our Head of Data. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for defining and executing webook’s data strategy, leading a talented team, and transforming our first-party data into a trusted and monetizable asset. This is your opportunity to make a tangible impact on one of Saudi Arabia’s leading event ticketing and experience booking platforms, which has achieved over 2 billion SAR in sales and continues to redefine industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

As the Head of Data, you will own the entire data function at webook, ensuring alignment with business objectives and regulatory requirements. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Data Strategy & Roadmap: Develop and implement webook’s first comprehensive data strategy, including a phased, costed roadmap, within 60 days of joining. This strategy will be endorsed by the VP of Architecture, Platform & AI and the CTO. Define the target operating model for the data function, covering engineering, analytics, governance, and the sequence of its development.
  • Data Platform Leadership: Lead the direction of the data platform, making critical decisions on managed versus self-hosted solutions. Present a costed recommendation within 90 days, including a clear cost-control model. Ensure the platform is reliable, scalable, and capable of delivering accurate, real-time insights to stakeholders and clients.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Assess, develop, and strengthen the existing data team to meet performance benchmarks. Set quarterly Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) for each direct report and conduct fortnightly one-on-one meetings with written notes. Foster a culture of engagement, mentorship, and career growth, with retention and engagement as explicit success measures.
  • Data Platform & Engineering: Ensure the reliability, testing, and observability of data pipelines, dashboards, and client-facing insights. Own the modern data stack, including warehouse/lakehouse, transformation (dbt), orchestration, BI, and serving layers. Make pragmatic build/buy and managed/self-host decisions across open-source and major managed platforms such as ClickHouse, Superset, BigQuery, Snowflake, and Databricks.
  • Analytics, Insight & Data Products: Establish a single source of truth and a governed metrics/semantic layer to eliminate conflicting definitions across the business. Raise the bar on analytical quality for both internal decisions and client-facing insights. Develop the capability to ship data products, including embedded client analytics, benchmarking, and insight services. Partner with product and commercial teams to define webook’s first paid data/insight product within 12 months, supported by a credible commercial case.
  • Data Governance, Quality & Privacy: Ensure compliance with PDPL, GDPR, and NCA regulations, including data classification, access control, residency, and cross-border transfer. Stand up a data catalog and data-quality standards with named ownership across data domains. Define the lawful-basis and controls framework required before any data product is launched, ensuring webook’s “licence to monetise.”
  • Data Monetisation & Commercial Partnership: Own the journey from internal analytics to embedded client insight to productised data, ensuring trust is built at each stage. Collaborate with commercial teams to identify and capitalise on monetisation opportunities, driving revenue growth through data-driven solutions.

Ideal Candidate Profile

We are seeking a strategic and hands-on leader with a proven track record in data strategy, team leadership, and platform development. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Extensive experience in leading data functions, preferably in high-growth, technology-driven environments.
  • Strong expertise in modern data stacks, including data warehousing, ETL/ELT, BI tools, and data governance frameworks.
  • Proven ability to build and scale high-performing teams, with a focus on talent development and retention.
  • Deep understanding of data privacy regulations (PDPL, GDPR, NCA) and experience implementing compliant data governance frameworks.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a passion for turning data into actionable business insights.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and align cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in data monetisation, including the development of data products and commercial partnerships.
