Freelance Data Scraping Engineer (Python)

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Freelance Data Scraping Engineer specializing in Python to join our dynamic team at Mindrift, based in Saudi Arabia. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing robust data scraping solutions to extract, process, and deliver high-quality data from various online sources. Your expertise will play a critical role in enabling data-driven decision-making and supporting our business objectives through accurate and efficient data acquisition.

Key Responsibilities

• Data Extraction & Scraping: Develop and maintain Python-based scripts and tools to scrape structured and unstructured data from websites, APIs, and other digital platforms, ensuring compliance with legal and ethical guidelines.
• Data Processing & Cleaning: Implement data cleaning, transformation, and validation processes to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and usability of scraped data for downstream applications.
• Automation & Optimization: Design automated scraping workflows to enhance efficiency, reduce manual intervention, and improve scalability while minimizing the risk of detection or blocking by target websites.
• Data Storage & Integration: Collaborate with data engineering teams to integrate scraped data into databases, data lakes, or analytics platforms, ensuring seamless accessibility and compatibility with existing systems.
• Compliance & Ethical Scraping: Adhere to best practices in data scraping, including respecting website terms of service, implementing rate limiting, and avoiding prohibited activities such as scraping personal or sensitive information without consent.
• Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed documentation of scraping methodologies, tools, and processes, and provide regular updates on project progress, challenges, and solutions to stakeholders.
• Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Identify and resolve issues related to data scraping, such as broken selectors, CAPTCHAs, or IP blocking, and implement proactive measures to mitigate future disruptions.

Required Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Data Scraping Engineer or similar role, with a strong portfolio of Python-based scraping projects.
• Proficiency in Python programming, with expertise in libraries such as BeautifulSoup, Scrapy, Selenium, and Requests.
• Familiarity with web technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and HTTP protocols.
• Experience with data processing libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, or PySpark for cleaning and transforming scraped data.
• Knowledge of databases (SQL and NoSQL) and data integration techniques for storing and managing scraped data.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex scraping challenges efficiently.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to document processes clearly and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Understanding of legal and ethical considerations in data scraping, including compliance with GDPR, CCPA, or other relevant regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) for deploying and scaling scraping solutions.
• Familiarity with machine learning or natural language processing (NLP) techniques for advanced data extraction and analysis.
• Prior experience in a freelance or remote work environment, demonstrating self-motivation and time management skills.
