Laboratory Technician

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Laboratory Technician to join our dynamic team, playing a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of quality assurance across our major infrastructure and construction projects. In this critical position, you will be responsible for conducting comprehensive laboratory and field testing of a wide range of construction materials, including concrete, asphalt, soil, backfilling materials, blocks, and more. Your expertise will be instrumental in maintaining compliance with stringent quality standards, ensuring the reliability of testing equipment, and delivering precise test reports that support the successful execution of our projects. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in both laboratory and field environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Material Testing: Conduct thorough laboratory and field tests on construction materials to verify their compliance with project specifications and industry standards. This includes testing concrete, asphalt, soil, backfilling materials, blocks, and other relevant materials to ensure structural integrity and performance.
• Field Inspections: Monitor and inspect critical construction activities such as concrete pouring, asphalt works, and road subgrade/backfill operations to ensure adherence to project specifications and quality standards. Provide real-time feedback to site engineers and project teams to address any deviations promptly.
• Reporting and Documentation: Prepare, review, and submit accurate laboratory test reports and results for approval, ensuring all documentation meets regulatory and project requirements. Maintain meticulous records of testing activities, equipment calibration, and quality control procedures to support audit trails and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Equipment Maintenance: Monitor the performance of laboratory equipment, conduct regular maintenance, and maintain detailed calibration records to guarantee the accuracy and reliability of testing outcomes. Address any equipment malfunctions or calibration issues promptly to minimize downtime.
• Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with Materials Engineers, Quality Engineers, Site Engineers, and project consultants to coordinate testing activities, interpret results, and provide actionable insights. Facilitate clear and effective communication to ensure alignment across all stakeholders.
• Compliance and Safety: Ensure all testing activities comply with company Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies, quality management systems, and applicable regulatory requirements. Promote a culture of safety and accountability within the laboratory and field operations.
• Reporting and Improvement: Prepare and submit weekly and monthly testing reports as required. Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance laboratory processes, testing methodologies, and quality control procedures.

Requirements

Education and Experience

• Education: Hold a Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, Materials Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Experience: Demonstrate a minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience in construction materials testing laboratories, with a proven track record in infrastructure and large-scale construction projects. Prior experience working in Saudi Arabia is highly advantageous.

Technical Skills and Competencies

• Technical Proficiency: Possess in-depth knowledge of laboratory and field testing procedures for construction materials, including familiarity with quality control and quality assurance requirements.
• Equipment Operation: Exhibit expertise in operating, maintaining, and calibrating laboratory equipment to ensure precise and reliable testing outcomes.
• Analytical and Reporting Skills: Demonstrate the ability to prepare and interpret detailed testing reports and technical documentation, ensuring clarity and accuracy in all communications.
• Software Proficiency: Maintain proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, to support data analysis, reporting, and documentation.
• Language Skills: Exhibit fluency in both Arabic and English to facilitate effective communication with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Work Environment

This role requires a balanced work environment, with approximately 50% of time dedicated to laboratory-based activities and the remaining 50% spent in field or site environments. The successful candidate must be prepared to navigate the demands of both settings while maintaining a high level of performance and reliability.
