Mechanical Technician - Energy (Jubail, KSA Pool - Based in UAE)

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Technician – Energy to join our dynamic team based in the UAE. This role is pivotal in ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of mechanical machinery and equipment within power generation facilities, including both simple and combined cycle Power Generation blocks and Balance of Plant (BOP) systems. The successful candidate will play a critical role in minimizing production downtime through proactive maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting, while upholding the highest standards of safety, environmental compliance, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

The Mechanical Technician – Energy will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including:

• Mechanical Maintenance and Repairs: Perform preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance on a diverse array of mechanical equipment and systems, including GE Frame 9E/9FA Gas Turbines, steam turbines, waste heat boilers, thermal desalination units, compressors, pumps, cooling towers, and Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants. Execute repairs with minimal supervision, ensuring rapid restoration of systems to operational status.
• On-Call and Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond to on-call duties and emergency situations as required, demonstrating the ability to work under pressure and make critical decisions to mitigate operational disruptions.
• Technical Execution and Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards, plant operating procedures, and industry best practices to ensure a safe working environment. Utilize appropriate tools, equipment, and personal protective gear to minimize workplace accidents and health hazards.
• Troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis: Identify recurring mechanical issues, conduct thorough root cause analysis, and implement sustainable solutions to prevent recurrence, thereby enhancing equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
• Supervision and Coordination: Provide clear direction to contract workforce and junior technicians, ensuring that maintenance activities are executed in alignment with approved plans and schedules. Collaborate effectively with Technician Engineers and other stakeholders to achieve operational objectives.
• Environmental and Operational Challenges: Work in environments with potential exposure to high-pressure steam, high voltage, arc flash, magnetic fields, noise, fumes, heat, humidity, dust, chemical splashes, acids, mineral oils, and liquids. Maintain vigilance to mitigate risks and ensure personal safety and well-being.

Qualifications and Competencies

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications and possess the requisite skills:

• Education: A Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a Craft/Trade certificate (or equivalent qualification) is required.
• Experience:
  • Diploma Holders: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance, preferably within a thermal power plant environment.
  • Craft/Trade Certificate Holders: Minimum of 8 years of relevant mechanical maintenance experience.
• Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated expertise in the overhaul and maintenance of GE Frame 9E/9FA Gas Turbines, steam turbines, waste heat boilers, thermal desalination units, and other BOP equipment. Familiarity with mechanical maintenance tools and computer literacy is essential.
• Communication and Teamwork: Strong command of the English language, both written and verbal, to facilitate clear communication in a multicultural environment. Excellent interpersonal skills, assertiveness, and the ability to work effectively within a team, including participation in shift work.
