Process Safety Specialist

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Process Safety Specialist to join our team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the meticulous collection, organization, validation, and maintenance of critical Process Safety documentation. Your expertise will ensure that essential technical documents pertaining to hazards, equipment, technology, and facility design are not only accurate but also readily accessible to operations, maintenance, engineering, and emergency response teams. Your contributions will be instrumental in fostering a culture of safety and compliance within our organization.

Key Responsibilities

The Process Safety Specialist will play a central role in managing and enhancing our Process Safety Management (PSM) framework. Your core responsibilities will include:

• Document Management: Establish and maintain a robust system for managing all Process Safety-related documents, ensuring they are up-to-date, accurate, and easily retrievable for all stakeholders.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance teams to verify the accuracy of Process Safety documentation during project closeouts, Management of Change (MOC) implementations, and routine reviews. Your coordination will ensure seamless integration of safety protocols across all phases of operations.
• Audit Participation: Actively participate in Process Safety Management (PSM) audits, with a particular focus on Process Safety elements. Your insights will help identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
• Data Management Strategy: Support the development and implementation of data management strategies for Process Safety, ensuring that critical information is effectively captured, analyzed, and utilized to mitigate risks.
• Benchmarking and Best Practices: Conduct benchmarking exercises to evaluate major safety management systems and processes. Your findings will drive continuous improvement and align our practices with industry-leading standards.
• Risk Assessment Leadership: Lead Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOPs), Layers of Protection Analyses (LOPAs), and other risk assessment studies. Your leadership will ensure that potential hazards are identified, evaluated, and mitigated proactively.
• Incident Investigation: Lead investigations into incidents and accidents that impact company personnel, contractors, and equipment. Your thorough analysis will help determine root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Maintain comprehensive records of incident reports for tracking and analysis purposes.
• Team Development: Develop and mentor Process Safety engineers by establishing Individual Development Plans (IDPs) and providing access to external opportunities and Joint Venture (JV) assignments. Your guidance will foster professional growth and enhance the capabilities of our team.
• Tool and Software Acquisition: Identify and obtain the necessary tools and software to enhance the overall performance and efficiency of the Process Safety department. Your initiatives will streamline processes and improve data management capabilities.

Qualifications and Experience

To excel in this role, you must possess the following qualifications, skills, knowledge, and experience:

• Industrial or Engineering Experience: Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in an industrial or engineering environment, with a strong background in technical documentation and data management.
• Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, enabling effective liaison with technical personnel across all levels of the organization.
• Certifications: NEBOSH certification, HAZOP Leader certification, and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) certification.
