Job Purpose
As a Controller, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the daily operations of the terminal by ensuring that all planned crane and yard movements are executed with the necessary equipment and manpower. Your primary responsibility will be to optimize terminal resources to achieve and exceed productivity targets while maintaining operational efficiency and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Office Functions
- Vessel Operations Management: Upon the arrival or berthing of a vessel, assign and activate quay cranes and deploy additional equipment to support seamless operations.
- Equipment Segregation & Deployment: Strategically allocate equipment based on crane assignments, planned crane moves, and pre-planned stacks for grounding and loading locations. Ensure optimal deployment, particularly for heavy blocks, while closely monitoring operations.
- Yard Operations Monitoring: Track the delivery and receiving of blocks to minimize congestion in the yard. Coordinate with the Operations Supervisor to streamline workflows and enhance productivity.
- Performance Tracking: Monitor truck turnaround times to meet Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and optimize equipment utilization in the yard to reduce fuel costs.
- Customs & Scan Activities: Oversee customs-related activities, including clearing and laydown operations, to ensure a smooth flow of goods and compliance with regulations.
- Crane Sequence Coordination: Work closely with Vessel Planners and Yard Planners to monitor crane sequences. Address any conflicts promptly by adjusting sequences to maintain operational efficiency.
- Reefer Operations Support: Collaborate with Reefer Technicians during loading and discharging operations to ensure smooth execution.
- Workforce Management: Assign Power of Work (P.O.W) to operators effectively to maximize productivity and meet operational goals.
- Reporting & Documentation: Prepare shift monitoring reports and maintain hourly done moves reports to achieve a minimum of 35 moves per hour per crane. Document all incidents and accidents, reporting them to immediate superiors as required.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to ensure safe and compliant operations at all times.

Qualifications & Capabilities
Education & Experience
- Education: Minimum requirement of a college or bachelor’s degree.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a related field, with a deep understanding of container terminal operations, including vessel, yard, and customs activities.
Technical Skills
- Terminal Operating Systems (TOS): Proficiency in using Terminal Operating Systems to manage and optimize terminal operations.
- Navis Sparc’s & N4: Knowledgeable in Navis Sparc’s and N4 systems for enhanced operational efficiency.
Working Conditions
This role operates within an office environment, requiring a high level of attention to detail, multitasking, and the ability to work under pressure. The Controller must be adept at managing multiple priorities while maintaining a focus on safety, productivity, and compliance.
