Coffee Quality Manager

Position Overview

In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of coffee quality, from sourcing and procurement to roasting and final product evaluation. Your expertise will play a critical role in maintaining our reputation for excellence and delivering an exceptional coffee experience to our clients and consumers.

Key Responsibilities

• Quality Assurance: Develop, implement, and enforce rigorous quality control processes to guarantee consistency in coffee flavor, aroma, and appearance. Monitor and evaluate coffee beans at every stage of the production cycle to identify and address any deviations from established standards.
• Sourcing and Procurement: Collaborate with suppliers to identify and secure high-quality coffee beans that align with our brand’s quality benchmarks. Conduct thorough assessments of potential suppliers, including on-site visits and sample evaluations, to ensure ethical and sustainable sourcing practices.
• Roasting and Production Oversight: Work closely with the roasting team to optimize roasting profiles, ensuring that each batch meets the desired flavor profiles and quality specifications. Monitor roasting parameters such as temperature, time, and airflow to achieve consistent results.
• Sensory Evaluation: Lead and conduct regular sensory evaluations, including cupping sessions, to assess coffee quality, identify defects, and determine flavor profiles. Train and mentor staff on sensory analysis techniques to foster a culture of quality awareness across the organization.
• Compliance and Standards: Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory requirements, and international coffee standards (e.g., SCA, ISO) to ensure compliance and continuous improvement. Document and report quality metrics, non-conformities, and corrective actions to senior management.
• Team Leadership: Provide guidance and mentorship to the quality assurance team, fostering a collaborative and results-driven work environment. Develop training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of team members in quality control methodologies.
• Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and waste minimization while maintaining uncompromising quality standards. Drive initiatives to enhance overall operational efficiency and product excellence.

Qualifications and Skills

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Agriculture, or a related field. A certification in coffee quality assessment (e.g., Q Grader, SCA certification) is highly desirable.
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in coffee quality management, sensory evaluation, or a related field, with a proven track record of maintaining high-quality standards in a commercial setting.
• Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of coffee processing, roasting techniques, and quality control methodologies. Familiarity with laboratory equipment, sensory analysis tools, and data management systems.
• Analytical Skills: Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to interpret sensory and analytical data to make informed decisions. Proficiency in statistical analysis and quality management software is a plus.
• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Arabic, with the ability to present findings and recommendations clearly to stakeholders at all levels.
• Leadership and Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with suppliers, production teams, and senior management.
• Problem-Solving: A proactive approach to identifying and resolving quality issues, coupled with a commitment to driving sustainable solutions.
