As a Sample Preparation Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of analytical results by meticulously preparing samples for testing. Key Responsibilities
In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for executing established sample preparation procedures with precision and diligence. Your core duties will include:
- Sample Preparation: Perform routine analytical techniques to prepare samples, ensuring the resulting assay paste accurately represents the original sample. This requires a keen attention to detail and adherence to standardized protocols.
- Equipment Maintenance: Conduct day-shift maintenance on sample preparation equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime. Report any maintenance needs promptly to the Sample Preparation Shift Supervisor.
- Quality Assurance: Deliver high-quality samples to all laboratory sections, maintaining consistency and reliability in every batch. Contribute to accurate record-keeping and control systems, ensuring all documentation is complete and up-to-date.
- Safety and Compliance: Uphold rigorous safety standards by wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), following hygiene procedures, and maintaining a clean work environment. Report accidents, incidents, and non-conformities to management, ensuring SGS’s Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (Q&HSE) procedures are strictly followed.
- Operational Excellence: Actively participate in shift activities to meet customer processing requirements. Assist in regular cleaning and maintenance tasks to support laboratory operations and ensure a seamless workflow.
- Stakeholder Relations: Foster positive relationships with client personnel, government authorities, and community assemblies. Keep management informed of any operational challenges and advise on inventory needs to maintain uninterrupted workflow.
Qualifications and Skills
To excel in this role, you must meet the following requirements:
- Education: A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required. A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is a plus.
- Experience: At least one year of experience in a similar technical or laboratory role, with hands-on experience in sample preparation procedures.
- Technical Proficiency: Ability to operate and maintain sample preparation equipment with minimal supervision. Familiarity with quality control processes and documentation standards is essential.
- Safety Consciousness: A strong commitment to safety protocols, including the proper use of PPE, hygiene practices, and housekeeping standards.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with team members, clients, and regulatory authorities. Proficiency in English is required, and a second language is preferred.
- Additional Qualifications: A forklift license is advantageous but not mandatory. Adaptability, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are highly valued.
