Manager – Emerging Technologies

About the Role

King Salman International Airport (KSIA) is at the forefront of redefining global aviation through innovation and digital transformation. We are seeking a dynamic and visionary Manager – Emerging Technologies to spearhead our strategic initiatives in identifying, evaluating, and integrating cutting-edge technologies that will shape the future of airport operations and elevate the passenger experience. This pivotal role will drive research and development (R&D) efforts, including technology scouting, proof-of-concept (PoC) validation, pilot programs, and comprehensive technology assessments to determine technical feasibility, business value, and deployment readiness.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams across business, technology, design, and delivery to transform emerging technologies into scalable, enterprise-ready solutions. By leveraging next-generation capabilities such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics, Automation, Quantum Computing, and Internet of Things (IoT), this role will enhance operational efficiency, elevate guest experiences, and enable the development of a truly SMART airport ecosystem at KSIA.

Key Responsibilities

• Technology Research and Evaluation: Conduct in-depth research and evaluation of emerging technologies, including AI, Robotics, Automation, Quantum Computing, Computer Vision, Autonomous Mobility, IoT, Advanced Construction Materials, and other next-generation innovations relevant to KSIA’s strategic vision. Stay abreast of global technology trends, industry developments, and innovation ecosystems to identify and prioritize high-impact opportunities.
• Technology Scouting and Assessment: Lead the end-to-end R&D lifecycle by scouting new technologies, developing proof-of-concept (PoC) initiatives, and executing pilot programs. Assess technology readiness, technical feasibility, market maturity, and business value to inform investment and adoption decisions. Define and monitor KPIs to measure PoC performance and business outcomes.
• Strategic Partnerships and Collaboration: Build and manage strategic relationships with startups, universities, research institutions, technology vendors, innovation hubs, and venture ecosystems. Foster collaboration with internal stakeholders to identify opportunities that enhance operational efficiency and elevate the guest experience.
• Alignment with Enterprise Standards: Ensure that emerging technology initiatives align with enterprise architecture standards, governance frameworks, cybersecurity requirements, and organizational policies. Develop comprehensive business cases, technology assessments, implementation roadmaps, and executive recommendations to support strategic investment decisions.
• Stakeholder Engagement and Reporting: Prepare executive reports, presentations, and strategic insights for senior leadership, highlighting emerging technology initiatives, innovation opportunities, and their potential impact on KSIA’s long-term goals.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related STEM discipline. A Master’s degree or professional certifications in Digital Transformation, Enterprise Architecture, Cloud Technologies, Artificial Intelligence, or Emerging Technologies are preferred.
• Certifications: Professional certifications such as PMP, Agile, AI, or Innovation Management are considered advantageous.
• Experience & Skills:
  • 6–8 years of progressive experience in Emerging Technologies, Research & Development (R&D), Digital Transformation, Innovation, or Engineering.
  • Proven track record in evaluating, validating, and implementing emerging technologies within complex enterprise environments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading technology assessments, PoCs, pilot programs, and cross-functional implementation initiatives.
  • Experience collaborating with startups, innovation ecosystems, venture partners, universities, or research institutions is highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and project coordination skills.
  • Professional proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Aviation experience is preferred; however, candidates with experience in transportation, smart cities, defense, or large-scale infrastructure programs are encouraged to apply.
