Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Clinical Education

The Faculty Member in Respiratory Therapy will be responsible for:

• Delivering undergraduate courses in Respiratory Therapy through a variety of instructional methods, including lectures, laboratory sessions, tutorials, simulation-based learning, and clinical teaching, with a focus on student-centered pedagogical approaches.
• Supervising students during clinical rotations in affiliated hospitals and healthcare facilities to ensure the application of theoretical knowledge in real-world settings.
• Instructing core subjects within the Respiratory Therapy curriculum, such as cardiopulmonary assessment, mechanical ventilation, airway management, pulmonary diagnostics, critical care, emergency respiratory care, and evidence-based clinical practice.
• Leveraging educational technologies, including Blackboard (Learning Management System), ExamSoft, simulation tools, and other digital platforms, to enhance teaching effectiveness and student engagement.
• Developing comprehensive course materials, assessments, and examinations that align with program learning outcomes and accreditation requirements.
• Maintaining meticulous records of student attendance, grades, clinical evaluations, and academic documentation to ensure compliance with institutional and regulatory standards.

Student Support and Development

The role involves providing academic guidance and mentorship to Respiratory Therapy students, with a focus on:

• Enhancing students' clinical reasoning, critical thinking, professionalism, patient safety, and ethical decision-making skills.
• Monitoring student performance through regular assessments and providing timely, constructive feedback to support their academic and professional growth.
• Collaborating with academic advisors and program coordinators to address student needs and foster a supportive learning environment.

Research and Scholarly Activities

Faculty members are expected to contribute to the advancement of Respiratory Therapy through research and scholarly endeavors, including:

• Conducting research in areas such as Respiratory Therapy, pulmonary medicine, critical care, or related healthcare disciplines, with a focus on evidence-based practice and innovation.
• Publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at national and international conferences to disseminate knowledge and contribute to the field.
• Engaging in collaborative research projects with colleagues, healthcare institutions, and professional organizations to enhance the college’s research culture and impact.
• Supporting curriculum review and continuous academic improvement through the integration of research findings and best practices.

Academic Quality and Institutional Service

The Faculty Member will actively participate in the academic and operational aspects of the college by:

• Attending departmental meetings, serving on academic committees, and contributing to accreditation activities to ensure compliance with institutional and regulatory standards.
• Preparing and submitting course reports, annual program reports, and other required academic documentation to maintain transparency and accountability.
• Collaborating on curriculum development and continuous program enhancement to align with evolving healthcare needs and accreditation requirements.

Community Engagement

To extend the impact of the Respiratory Therapy Program beyond the classroom, the faculty member will engage in community outreach initiatives, including:

• Participating in public health campaigns focused on respiratory health, smoking cessation, pulmonary disease prevention, and health awareness.
• Collaborating with healthcare organizations, professional bodies, and community groups to promote respiratory health and support service-learning opportunities for students.

Requirements

Education and Licensure

• A Master’s degree or PhD in Respiratory Therapy or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
• A valid professional classification and registration with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS), or eligibility for registration.

Experience

• Prior teaching experience in higher education is highly desirable, particularly in healthcare or medical education programs.
• Clinical experience in Respiratory Therapy, critical care, emergency care, or pulmonary medicine, with a strong foundation in evidence-based practice.
• Experience in research, curriculum development, and academic reporting is preferred.
• Familiarity with simulation-based education and its integration into clinical training is considered an advantage.
