Key Responsibilities

• Engineering Support: Provide technical expertise and guidance to support mechanical equipment and maintenance activities, ensuring alignment with operational and safety standards.
• Equipment Performance Monitoring: Continuously assess the performance of mechanical assets and recommend data-driven reliability improvements to minimize downtime and enhance efficiency.
• Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA): Conduct thorough investigations to identify the underlying causes of equipment failures and develop proactive measures to mitigate risks and prevent recurrence.
• Maintenance Program Support: Collaborate with maintenance teams to implement and optimize preventive, predictive, and reliability-centered maintenance programs, ensuring assets operate at peak performance.
• Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution: Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical issues related to rotating equipment, hydraulic systems, and material handling equipment, providing timely and effective solutions.
• Compliance and Standards Adherence: Ensure all engineering activities comply with established industry standards, safety regulations, and best practices, including ASME, API, and ANSI guidelines.
• Continuous Improvement Initiatives: Participate in cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for process enhancements, cost reductions, and operational efficiencies within the mechanical systems.

Qualifications and Experience

To excel in this role, you must possess the following qualifications and experience:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in heavy industrial environments, such as smelting, mining, steel production, or similar sectors.
• Proven expertise in mechanical integrity and asset reliability programs, with a strong understanding of failure mechanisms and mitigation strategies.
• Hands-on experience with rotating equipment, hydraulic systems, and material handling equipment, including pumps, compressors, conveyors, and valves.
• A Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification is highly desirable and will be considered a significant advantage.

Technical Skills and Competencies

The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:

• Reliability Methodologies: In-depth knowledge of Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Predictive Maintenance (PdM) techniques to enhance equipment reliability and longevity.
• Industry Standards: Familiarity with key engineering standards, including ASME, API, and ANSI, and the ability to apply them in practical scenarios.
• Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Exceptional ability to analyze complex mechanical issues, identify root causes, and develop innovative, sustainable solutions.
• Communication and Collaboration: Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to diverse stakeholders, including engineers, maintenance personnel, and management.

Work Environment

This position is based in an industrial plant setting, where you will work in a dynamic and challenging environment. The role may require occasional travel to other sites or facilities for inspections, audits, or project support. The Mechanical Engineer will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including maintenance, operations, and safety departments, to achieve operational excellence and ensure the highest standards of safety and reliability.
