Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced TPE V/ Principal Piping Engineer to join our dynamic team at John Wood Group PLC, based in Saudi Arabia. This pivotal role is designed for a seasoned professional who will lead and oversee critical piping engineering projects, ensuring adherence to the highest industry standards, safety protocols, and project specifications. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving innovation, optimizing design solutions, and delivering exceptional results in alignment with our client’s objectives and organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership: Provide expert guidance and mentorship to a team of piping engineers and designers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement. Lead the development of piping system designs, including material selection, stress analysis, and compliance with international codes such as ASME B31.3, API 650, and other relevant standards.
  • Project Execution: Oversee the entire lifecycle of piping engineering projects, from conceptual design and feasibility studies to detailed engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in full compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaboration and Coordination: Act as a liaison between multidisciplinary teams, including process engineers, mechanical engineers, civil engineers, and project managers. Facilitate seamless communication and coordination to resolve technical challenges and mitigate risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Quality Assurance and Compliance: Implement robust quality control measures to ensure all piping designs and installations meet industry best practices, safety regulations, and environmental standards. Conduct thorough reviews, audits, and inspections to validate compliance with applicable codes and client specifications.
  • Innovation and Optimization: Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance piping system efficiency, reduce costs, and improve constructability. Leverage advanced engineering tools and software, such as AutoCAD Plant 3D, PDMS, or Caesar II, to optimize designs and streamline workflows.
  • Stakeholder Management: Engage with clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities to address technical queries, resolve disputes, and ensure alignment with project goals. Represent the company in technical discussions, presentations, and negotiations to secure project success.

Qualifications and Experience

To excel in this role, candidates must possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Piping Engineering, or a related discipline. A Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., PMP, PE) is highly desirable.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in piping engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership or principal engineer capacity within the oil & gas, petrochemical, or energy sectors.
  • In-depth knowledge of piping design codes (e.g., ASME B31.3, API 650, EN 13480) and industry best practices. Proficiency in piping stress analysis software (e.g., Caesar II, AutoPIPE) and 3D modeling tools (e.g., AutoCAD Plant 3D, PDMS, SmartPlant 3D).
  • Strong project management skills with a proven track record of delivering complex engineering projects on time and within budget. Familiarity with project execution methodologies such as EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) is essential.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across global teams and with senior stakeholders. Fluency in English is required; additional language proficiency is a plus.
  • Commitment to safety, sustainability, and ethical engineering practices. Demonstrated ability to identify and mitigate risks in high-hazard environments.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required to support project needs and client engagements.
