Jacobs Engineering Group Inc., a global leader in delivering innovative solutions across industries, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In this pivotal role, you will play a critical part in designing, optimizing, and implementing mechanical systems for state-of-the-art data centre facilities, ensuring operational excellence, energy efficiency, and sustainability. Your expertise will contribute directly to the success of high-profile projects that support the digital infrastructure of the region.
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer specializing in data centres, your core responsibilities will include:
- System Design & Engineering: Lead the mechanical design of critical infrastructure components, including HVAC systems, cooling solutions, fire suppression, and plumbing, tailored to the unique demands of data centre environments.
- Project Leadership: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, oversee project execution, and ensure adherence to industry standards, codes, and best practices, such as ASHRAE, TIA-942, and local regulatory requirements.
- Energy Efficiency & Sustainability: Develop and implement innovative strategies to enhance energy performance, reduce operational costs, and minimize environmental impact, aligning with global sustainability goals and client objectives.
- Collaboration & Stakeholder Management: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, architects, and construction managers, to integrate mechanical systems seamlessly with overall project deliverables. Engage with clients to understand their needs and translate them into actionable engineering solutions.
- Technical Analysis & Problem-Solving: Conduct detailed thermal and airflow modeling, load calculations, and system simulations to validate design assumptions, mitigate risks, and optimize performance. Address technical challenges with a proactive and analytical approach.
- Compliance & Quality Assurance: Ensure all mechanical systems comply with international standards, safety protocols, and client specifications. Perform rigorous quality checks and documentation to maintain the highest levels of reliability and performance.
- Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends, and advancements in data centre cooling and mechanical systems. Propose and implement cutting-edge solutions to drive efficiency and innovation.
Qualifications & Experience
To excel in this role, you must possess the following qualifications and experience:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., PE, LEED, or CMVP) are highly desirable.
- Experience: Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering, with at least 5 years specifically focused on data centre design and infrastructure. Prior experience in the Middle East or similar climates is advantageous.
- Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of HVAC systems, thermal management, and mechanical design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, or BIM 360). Familiarity with data centre-specific tools such as computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling is a plus.
- Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification is preferred. Certifications in energy management, sustainability, or data centre design (e.g., DCEP, CEM) are beneficial.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional problem-solving abilities, strong leadership qualities, and excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with global teams and stakeholders. Proficiency in English is required; Arabic language skills are a valuable asset.
- Industry Knowledge: A deep understanding of data centre operations, including Tier ratings, redundancy requirements, and lifecycle cost analysis. Awareness of regional regulations and industry standards is essential.
