Database Administrator

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Database Administrator (SQL DBA) to join our dynamic team in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The ideal candidate will possess extensive expertise in Microsoft SQL Server administration, performance optimization, and high-availability solutions to ensure the seamless operation of our enterprise-level database infrastructure. This role demands a proactive problem-solver with a strong technical background in database management, security, and integration, capable of supporting critical business applications and driving operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Database Administration & Performance Optimization: Administer and maintain SQL Server environments (2012 through 2022), including performance monitoring, tuning, and resource optimization. Utilize tools such as SQL Profiler, Database Tuning Advisor, and Performance Dashboard to enhance query efficiency and system responsiveness.
• High Availability & Disaster Recovery: Implement and manage robust high-availability solutions, including Always On Availability Groups, SQL Mirroring, Replication, and Log Shipping. Develop and maintain Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies, particularly SAN-based replication, to ensure minimal downtime and data integrity.
• Database Security & Compliance: Enforce database security best practices, including Dynamic Data Masking, role-based access control, and encryption. Conduct audits, performance reviews, and capacity planning to align with organizational and regulatory requirements.
• Migration & Integration: Lead data migration projects between SQL Server versions or instances, and integrate data from diverse sources, including Oracle and open-source databases, using linked servers and Oracle Gateway. Support seamless integration with business intelligence tools like SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, Power BI, and monitoring solutions such as SCOM.
• System Upgrades & Patch Management: Execute SQL Server upgrades, patching, and consolidation initiatives to maintain a secure, high-performance environment. Assess existing architectures to identify opportunities for consolidation without compromising performance or availability.
• Incident Management & Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve database-related incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventive measures to reduce service outages. Utilize log analysis and event viewer tools to proactively identify potential issues before they escalate.
• Automation & Scripting: Develop and maintain SQL scripts for automating routine database administration tasks, including backups, maintenance, and performance tuning. Enhance operational efficiency through scripting and automation where applicable.
• Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including development, operations, and business units, to align database solutions with organizational goals. Provide technical guidance and support for database-related projects and initiatives.

Qualifications & Skills

• Technical Proficiency: Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience administering SQL Server 2012 through 2022, with expertise in physical/logical database design, clustering (Active-Passive and Active-Active), and performance optimization.
• Certifications & Knowledge: Preferred Azure certification and familiarity with cloud architecture concepts. Strong understanding of network and storage management, as well as experience with mixed networking protocols (TCP/IP and non-standard).
• Problem-Solving & Critical Thinking: Demonstrated ability to analyze complex issues, implement effective solutions, and optimize database performance under pressure.
• Operational Excellence: Experience in large OT environments and a track record of reducing restoration times for service outages while ensuring minimal business disruption.
