Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Planning Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you will play a critical part in the tendering and planning phases of construction projects, ensuring that schedules are meticulously developed, technical submissions are accurately prepared, and all documentation is flawlessly managed. The ideal candidate will possess advanced proficiency in Primavera P6, a strong background in project planning for EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) projects, and the ability to thrive under tight deadlines while maintaining exceptional organizational and communication standards.
Key Responsibilities
The Planning Engineer will be responsible for a range of critical tasks that contribute to the success of our projects from the tendering phase through to execution. Your core duties will include:
- Tender Planning & Scheduling:
- Develop comprehensive project schedules using Primavera P6, tailored for tender submissions, including baseline schedules, construction schedules, and resource-loaded schedules as required.
- Define Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), establish activity logic, determine durations, and identify critical paths to ensure alignment with project timelines and tender requirements.
- Collaborate closely with the engineering team to integrate technical inputs into the scheduling process, ensuring accuracy and feasibility.
- Technical Submission Support:
- Provide expert planning inputs for the preparation of essential technical documents, including Construction Method Statements, Execution Plans, and Schedule Narratives.
- Assist in compiling and integrating all technical submissions into cohesive final tender documents, ensuring compliance with client requirements and industry standards.
- Offer justifications and rationale for scheduling decisions, demonstrating a deep understanding of construction methodologies and project constraints.
- Tender Document Management:
- Organize, maintain, and manage all tender-related documentation with precision, including Invitation to Tender (ITT) / Request for Proposal (RFP) documents, clarifications, addenda, and submission files.
- Implement robust document control systems to ensure version tracking, proper filing, and easy retrieval for future reference and audits.
- Develop and maintain structured databases and repositories to streamline access to historical project data and standard templates.
- Data Collection & Analysis:
- Collect and analyze historical project data to establish benchmarks for duration estimation, resource allocation, and risk assessment.
- Develop and maintain standardized templates for WBS, schedules, and reports to enhance consistency and efficiency across projects.
- Identify potential risks and constraints early in the planning phase, providing actionable insights to mitigate delays and cost overruns.
- Cross-Functional Coordination:
- Act as a liaison between the planning team, engineering team, costing/commercial team, and procurement team to ensure seamless alignment during tender preparation.
- Facilitate internal meetings and workshops to gather inputs, resolve discrepancies, and finalize tender submissions in a timely manner.
- Support the commercial team in evaluating tender requirements and aligning project schedules with contractual obligations.
Qualifications & Skills
To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications and possess the technical and interpersonal skills outlined below:
- Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, with a specialization in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of three years of relevant experience in project planning, with a strong focus on tendering and bidding phases.
- Prior experience working on projects in the Middle East is highly advantageous, given the region’s unique construction methodologies and regulatory environments.
- Technical Proficiency:
- Advanced-level expertise in Primavera P6, with the ability to develop, optimize, and manage complex project schedules.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions for data analysis, reporting, and scheduling calculations.
- Solid understanding of construction sequencing, methodologies, and resource allocation strategies.
- Familiarity with EPC project structures and the associated planning challenges is considered a significant advantage.
- Language & Communication:
- Fluent proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is mandatory to effectively communicate with stakeholders, clients, and team members.
- Additional proficiency in Arabic is a valuable asset, particularly for projects based in the Middle East or involving Arabic-speaking clients.
