ENGINEER - PROCESS CONTROL

Position Overview

Saudi Industrial Investment Group (SIIG), in collaboration with Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LLC through its wholly owned affiliate, Arabian Chevron Phillips Petrochemical Company (ACP), operates three prominent joint venture projects in the Eastern Province Industrial City of Al-Jubail: Saudi Chevron Phillips Company (SCP), Jubail Chevron Phillips Company (JCP), and Saudi Polymers Company (SPCo), the latter jointly owned by ACP and National Petrochemical Company (Petrochem). As a Process Control Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing plant safety, profitability, efficiency, and operability by developing and implementing advanced control strategies. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the operational excellence of one of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s leading petrochemical enterprises, S-Chem, which is instrumental in advancing the industrial foundation of the region.

Key Responsibilities

The Process Control Engineer will be responsible for a wide range of critical functions, including but not limited to:

• Process Safety Management (PSM): Actively participate in the Management of Change process, conduct hazard reviews, and contribute to HAZOP (Hazards and Operability Study) and LOPA (Layer of Protection Analysis) studies. Follow up on action items and ensure compliance with Pre-Startup Safety Reviews to maintain the highest safety standards.
• Process Optimization: Evaluate new process schemes and designs to assess their merit, feasibility, and potential impact on plant operations. Identify and implement opportunities for improving process control strategies to enhance overall plant performance.
• Control System Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Diagnose and resolve issues related to control systems, execute preventative maintenance to ensure optimal system operation, and support the monitoring of control systems and associated applications.
• Advanced Process Control (APC): Support the implementation and management of Advanced Process Control applications to drive efficiency and reduce operational variability.
• Alarm Management: Lead Alarm Documentation and Rationalization (AOA) activities to ensure alarm systems are effective, well-documented, and aligned with operational needs.
• Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS): Provide lifecycle management support for Safety Instrumented Systems and instrumented independent protection layers, including proof testing to ensure reliability and compliance.
• Training and Knowledge Transfer: Develop instructional materials and deliver training sessions to Operations, Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Maintenance, and Technical personnel on control-related subjects to enhance their expertise and operational readiness.
• Shutdown and Turnaround Support: Offer engineering support during planned and unplanned shutdowns and unit turnarounds to minimize downtime and ensure smooth operations.
• Instrumentation and Control Valve Expertise: Take responsibility for the sizing, selection, and performance of instrumentation devices, control valves, and measurement instruments to ensure accuracy and reliability in process control.
• Control Loop Performance: Conduct performance assessments and tuning of control loops, including troubleshooting sensors, controllers, and final elements to maintain optimal control and reduce variability.
• Daily Operational Support: Perform daily support activities for operations, including reviewing bypass permits, issuing installation permits where applicable, and participating in incident investigations to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Compliance and Excellence: Strictly adhere to environmental, health, safety, and quality policies and procedures to ensure employee safety, legislative compliance, and the delivery of high-quality products and services. Contribute to the operational excellence process and drive continuous improvement initiatives within the assigned area.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the Lead Process Control and other stakeholders to execute tasks and projects as directed, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.

Qualifications and Competencies

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, with a strong foundation in process control, instrumentation, or a related discipline.
• Experience: Minimum of three years of relevant work experience in process control, instrumentation, or a closely related field, with a proven track record of delivering technical solutions in an industrial environment.
• Preferred Qualifications: Relevant professional training and certifications in process control, safety management, or related areas are highly desirable. Experience in the petrochemical industry or a similar high-hazard environment is advantageous.
• Skills:
  • Proven ability to read, analyze, and interpret business publications, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the capability to prepare comprehensive reports, business correspondence, and procedural documents.
  • Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills, enabling effective communication with managers, customers, clients, and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying and implementing improvements.
