Key Responsibilities

As a Senior GL Accountant at Gathern, your core responsibilities will include:

• General Ledger Management: Oversee and maintain the integrity of the general ledger, ensuring all financial transactions are accurately recorded, classified, and reconciled in compliance with international accounting standards (IFRS) and local regulatory requirements.
• Month-End and Year-End Close Processes: Lead the month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries, accruals, deferrals, and reconciliations. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Financial Reporting and Analysis: Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements. Provide actionable insights and variance analysis to support management in making informed business decisions.
• Internal Controls and Compliance: Develop, implement, and monitor robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures, and regulatory frameworks. Identify and mitigate risks related to financial reporting and operational processes.
• System and Process Improvements: Evaluate existing accounting processes and systems to identify opportunities for automation, efficiency gains, and cost reductions. Recommend and implement best practices to enhance the accuracy and timeliness of financial data.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing clear and concise financial updates, forecasts, and strategic recommendations. Work collaboratively with departments such as Treasury, Tax, and Operations to align financial goals with business objectives.
• Team Leadership and Mentorship: Mentor and guide junior accounting staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development. Support the recruitment, training, and performance evaluation of team members to ensure high standards of excellence.

Qualifications and Skills

To excel in this role, you will bring the following qualifications and competencies:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A master’s degree or professional certification such as CPA, ACCA, or CMA is highly desirable.
• Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3-5 years in a senior GL accounting or financial reporting role. Experience in a fast-paced, corporate environment is preferred.
• Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics) and proficiency in Microsoft Excel, particularly in handling complex financial models and data analysis. Familiarity with financial consolidation tools is a plus.
• Technical Expertise: In-depth understanding of IFRS, GAAP, and local regulatory requirements. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and provide meaningful insights.
• Soft Skills: Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills. Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment. A proactive and problem-solving mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement.
• Language Proficiency: Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Arabic is advantageous.
