Carpenter - (Hay Moon Cay - Bahamas)

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Carpenter to join our team at Hay Moon Cay, one of Carnival Corporation’s premier global destinations in the Bahamas. The Carpenter will play a pivotal role in the construction, maintenance, and repair of our facilities, ensuring that all structures meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance. This position requires a detail-oriented professional with a strong background in carpentry, the ability to interpret blueprints, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient work environment. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional craftsmanship, physical stamina, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a dynamic team.

Key Responsibilities

The Carpenter will be responsible for a wide range of construction and installation tasks, including but not limited to:

• Construction & Installation:
  • Construct and install building frameworks, including walls, floors, and doorframes.
  • Hang drywall and assist with wall/ceiling framing to ensure structural integrity.
  • Install, maintain, and repair cabinets, insulation, tile, and drywall with precision.
  • Build and install doors, cabinets, shelving, and windows according to project specifications.
  • Cut, shape, and alter wood, plastic, and other materials to meet exact measurements and design requirements.
  • Assemble structural components, including trusses, beams, and panels, using hand and power tools.
  • Provide guidance and direction to laborers and other construction helpers to ensure efficient workflow.
  • Assist with the demolition of existing structures when necessary, ensuring safe and orderly removal.
  • Ensure all installations comply with building codes, project requirements, and company standards.
• Reporting, Documentation & Compliance:
  • Create detailed and accurate construction reports for supervisors and managers, documenting progress, challenges, and resolutions.
  • Update daily logs, progress tracking documents, and repair logs to maintain transparency and accountability.
  • Document materials used, labor hours, and any deviations from project plans to support budgeting and resource allocation.
  • Review blueprints and project plans to verify work requirements and ensure alignment with design specifications.
  • Adhere to strict project timelines and proactively communicate any delays or issues to management.
  • Participate in project meetings to provide updates, feedback, and recommendations for process improvements.
  • Assist in estimating time, materials, and labor required for tasks to support project planning and execution.
• Safety, Equipment & Inspections:
  • Perform all work in accordance with safety best practices, OSHA guidelines, and company policies to minimize risks and ensure a secure work environment.
  • Conduct thorough building inspections to identify required repairs and maintenance needs, prioritizing safety and structural integrity.
  • Inspect worksites before commencing tasks to identify potential hazards and ensure safe working conditions.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in safe, working condition, reporting any damage or malfunctions to management immediately.
  • Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times, including safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection.
  • Participate in mandatory safety meetings and training sessions to stay updated on industry standards and best practices.
  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards to prevent accidents and promote efficiency.

Qualifications & Skills

To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:

• Education & Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED is required; equivalent experience in carpentry may be considered.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of general carpentry experience, including completion of an apprenticeship or equivalent training.
  • Additional education or certification in hospitality, construction management, or a related field is a plus.
• Technical & Practical Skills:
  • Proficient in using power tools for cutting, shaping, and joining wood and other materials.
  • Strong ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings with accuracy.
  • Specialization in woodworking, with a keen eye for detail and craftsmanship.
  • Experience in installing and repairing flooring, including wood, tile, and vinyl materials.
  • Familiarity with building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards.
• Physical & Soft Skills:
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including prolonged standing, sitting, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Strong multitasking abilities with excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate in a team-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, for documentation and reporting purposes.
  • Must be physically able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills, including full use of arms and legs, as well as clear verbal, visual, and hearing abilities.
