Electrical Technician

Job Overview

We are a leading developer, investor, and operator of power generation and desalinated water plants, managing a diverse portfolio of 90 assets across 13 countries. As an Electrical Technician (PV/Solar), you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation and maintenance of utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) plants and associated substations. This position is based in Shuaiba, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and requires adherence to Saudi electrical standards and stringent Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Your core responsibilities will encompass a wide range of technical and operational tasks, including:

• Operations & Maintenance:
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on PV modules, inverters, string combiner boxes (SCBs), uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), and transformers.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot SCADA systems to resolve alarms and field issues promptly.
  • Conduct operations and maintenance on switchgear and protection systems within the 11kV to 220kV range.
  • Perform infrared (IR) testing and fault rectification on high-tension (HT) and direct current (DC) cables.
  • Maintain robotic cleaning systems and sun-tracking mechanisms to optimize solar panel efficiency.
• Project Execution & Commissioning:
  • Support the erection, testing, and commissioning of transformers, high-tension/low-tension (HT/LT) panels, and cables.
  • Review electrical drawings and coordinate Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) inspections.
  • Lead commissioning activities in compliance with Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) and NEOM standards.
• Safety & Compliance:
  • Enforce Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and Permit to Work (PTW) systems in alignment with Saudi Aramco, SEC, and NEOM HSE protocols.
  • Conduct safety briefings, drills, and first-aid sessions to foster a culture of safety awareness.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for internal and external audits to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Team & Vendor Management:
  • Supervise technical teams and ensure seamless shift handovers to maintain operational continuity.
  • Coordinate with contractors and vendors to facilitate timely project execution and issue resolution.

Qualifications & Experience

To excel in this role, you must meet the following criteria:

• Education: A Technical Certificate or Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years in solar PV operations and maintenance, with hands-on experience in robotic module cleaning systems and PV tracking mechanisms.
• Certifications:
  • Valid Electrical License (preferably transferable to the Saudi Council of Engineers).
  • Preferred certifications include Electrical Wireman License, First Aid, Fire Safety, H2S, HV & EHV Cable Installation & Testing, and familiarity with Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA), and Permit to Work Systems.
  • Knowledge of the Saudi Electrical Code and SEC/NEOM standards is highly advantageous.

Key Skills & Competencies

We are seeking candidates with the following technical and professional competencies:

• Technical Proficiency:
  • Strong knowledge of utility-scale solar PV systems, including installation and O&M.
  • Expertise in inverters, SCBs, UPS, transformers, and switchgear.
  • Proficiency in SCADA monitoring, troubleshooting DC field and communication faults, and HT cable diagnostics (e.g., Hipot, Online PD, IR testing).
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics and protection/control circuits.
  • Experience in troubleshooting Current Relay Protection (CRP) panels and protection systems.
• Safety & Compliance:
  • In-depth knowledge of LOTO procedures and HSE compliance protocols.
  • Familiarity with inventory and spare parts management.
  • Experience in commissioning and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Method Statements (WMSRA), and risk assessments.
• Soft Skills:
  • Strong documentation and reporting skills for audits and shift handovers.
  • Excellent coordination and communication abilities to collaborate with internal teams and external vendors.
