Director of Engineering

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and visionary Director of Engineering to lead our Engineering department with excellence. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of all heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and mechanical systems to ensure the safety, comfort, and satisfaction of our associates and guests. Your leadership will be instrumental in developing and executing a comprehensive maintenance program that aligns with our commitment to operational efficiency, environmental sustainability, and asset protection.

Key Responsibilities

The Director of Engineering will play a critical role in shaping the strategic direction of the department while ensuring its seamless day-to-day operations. Your responsibilities will include:

• Department Leadership and Management: Supervise, train, and manage all Engineering associates to foster a high-performance culture. Conduct regular work sampling studies to evaluate team productivity and implement improvements as needed.
• Strategic Planning and Financial Oversight: Develop, coordinate, and monitor maintenance budgets, capital works programs, and engineering plans. Ensure rigorous financial management by tracking performance against set targets and submitting reports to senior management. Collaborate with leadership to allocate capital funding effectively and in accordance with company directives.
• Energy Management and Sustainability: Design and implement an energy management program that establishes best practices to reduce consumption without compromising guest or associate comfort. Track energy usage, set performance targets, and conduct training sessions to promote energy conservation across the property.
• Guest and Associate Satisfaction: Contribute to exceptional guest experiences by ensuring that technical support services are responsive, efficient, and anticipatory. Maintain a safe and comfortable environment for all stakeholders while upholding courteous and professional service standards.
• Compliance and Safety: Ensure adherence to all statutory regulations, fire codes, and safety procedures. Coordinate required tests and inspections with authorities, maintain accurate records, and guarantee full compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
• Asset Maintenance and Upgrades: Maintain the physical assets of the property by overseeing upgrading and project work in collaboration with internal departments and external consultants. Develop and manage preventive maintenance programs for mechanical and electrical systems, guest rooms, kitchens, restaurants, and public areas to extend asset lifespan and reliability.
• Inventory and Procurement: Maintain a detailed inventory of parts and supplies, and oversee the procurement of all engineering-related materials, tools, and equipment through direct engagement with sales representatives.
• Technical Oversight: Ensure the proper operation, maintenance, and repair of critical systems, including:
  • Heaters, pumps, valves, and lines for steam and heated water distribution.
  • Refrigeration systems, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, and control devices.
  • Air compressors, distribution lines, and control valves.
  • Natural and manufactured gas systems, including distribution lines and control devices.
  • Water filtration, softening, piping, and pumping systems.

Qualifications and Skills

To excel in this role, you will bring a proven track record in engineering management, a deep understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, and a passion for operational excellence. Ideal candidates will possess:

• A degree in Engineering, Facility Management, or a related field, complemented by relevant certifications.
• Extensive experience in a leadership role within engineering or facilities management, preferably in a hospitality or large-scale commercial environment.
• Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting, cost control, and capital project planning.
• In-depth knowledge of energy management, sustainability practices, and regulatory compliance.
• Exceptional problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic setting.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with senior management, associates, and external stakeholders.
