Planning Engineer

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Planning Engineer to join our team, specializing in the construction of Oil and Gas Projects. The ideal candidate will possess multi-disciplinary expertise in project planning, scheduling, and performance monitoring to ensure the successful execution of complex construction initiatives. This role requires a proactive professional capable of developing detailed schedules, analyzing progress, and providing actionable recommendations to optimize project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

The Planning Engineer will be responsible for the following core functions:

• Schedule Development and Maintenance: Prepare comprehensive construction schedules, including detailed micro schedules, tailored to project requirements, drawings, and site conditions. Ensure schedules are realistic, achievable, and aligned with project objectives.
• Progress Monitoring and Reporting: Conduct regular updates to project schedules by incorporating the latest progress data, revised scope, execution sequences, and performance metrics. Utilize Primavera P6 to analyze schedule performance, identify critical paths, optimize durations, floats, and sequencing, and assess resource allocation (direct man-hours) and execution methodologies.
• Performance Analysis and Mitigation: Evaluate actual progress against baseline schedules to identify deviations, delays, or inefficiencies. Develop and implement remedial actions to mitigate risks and ensure timely project delivery. Prepare detailed weekly and monthly progress reports in accordance with contractual and corporate standards.
• Resource and Forecasting Analysis: Generate critical project visualizations, including manpower histograms, progress S-curves, and commodity curves, to forecast resource requirements and project trends. Provide data-driven insights to support decision-making and resource optimization.
• Resource Program Development: Prepare and maintain labor and equipment resource programs, detailing workforce requirements for each direct trade and subcontractor, as applicable. Ensure alignment with project milestones and contractual obligations.

Qualifications and Experience

To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Professional Experience: Minimum of 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in project planning and scheduling within a construction contractor’s organization, with a focus on Mechanical projects.
• Technical Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of Primavera P6 for schedule development, analysis, and reporting. Familiarity with progress measurement procedures and resource optimization techniques.
• Additional Advantages: Exposure to Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) and Work Face Planning (WFP) methodologies will be considered a valuable asset.
