Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced I&C Commissioning Engineer to join our team and play a pivotal role in the successful deployment of instrumentation and control systems within our power plant. In this critical position, you will be responsible for the meticulous planning, execution, and oversight of commissioning activities to ensure that all I&C systems—including Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and field instruments—are installed, configured, tested, and fully operational in strict accordance with design specifications and stringent safety standards. Your expertise will be instrumental in verifying system functionality, resolving technical challenges, and ensuring seamless integration with mechanical and electrical components, ultimately contributing to the safe and efficient operation of our facility.
Key Responsibilities
The I&C Commissioning Engineer will undertake a comprehensive range of duties to deliver a flawless commissioning process. These responsibilities include:
- Commissioning Planning and Execution:
- Develop, refine, and implement detailed commissioning plans, procedures, and schedules tailored to the project’s scope and requirements.
- Execute comprehensive loop checks, calibration, and functional testing of field instruments such as flow meters, pressure transmitters, and temperature sensors to validate their accuracy and performance.
- Configure and test control systems, including DCS, SCADA, and PLCs, ensuring they meet design intent and operational objectives.
- Conduct rigorous system integration tests to confirm seamless interoperability between I&C systems and other plant components, including mechanical and electrical systems.
- System Inspection and Troubleshooting:
- Perform detailed inspections to verify that all instrumentation and control systems are installed in strict compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, and industry standards.
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues that arise during commissioning, including hardware malfunctions, software anomalies, and communication failures, to minimize downtime and ensure project continuity.
- Validate signal integrity and ensure robust communication between control systems and field devices, addressing any discrepancies or inefficiencies.
- Safety and Compliance:

- Serve as a technical liaison with equipment vendors and external contractors, facilitating the resolution of technical issues and ensuring timely support.
- Coordinate effectively with the operations team to facilitate a seamless system handover, including the provision of comprehensive training and operational guidance to plant personnel.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Prepare, review, and maintain meticulous commissioning documentation, including test protocols, as-built drawings, and performance reports, to ensure traceability and compliance.
- Systematically record and resolve punch list items throughout the commissioning process, providing actionable inputs for final acceptance testing and project closeout.
- Assist in the development of operational manuals and training materials to empower plant personnel with the knowledge required for safe and efficient system operation.
Qualifications and Skills
To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following educational, experiential, and technical criteria:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Control Engineering, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of five years of hands-on experience in the commissioning of I&C systems, with a strong preference for candidates with prior experience in power plants or large-scale industrial facilities.
Technical Proficiency
- Extensive expertise in the commissioning, configuration, and troubleshooting of DCS, PLCs, SCADA systems, and field instruments.
- In-depth knowledge of communication protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet, and HART, and the ability to apply this knowledge in practical commissioning scenarios.
- Familiarity with industry standards and codes, including IEC, ISA, and IEEE, and the ability to interpret and apply these in commissioning activities.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and control system logic to ensure accurate system implementation.
