Position Overview
The Director – Governance, Risk, and Control Lead will play a pivotal role in establishing and maintaining robust governance, risk, and control mechanisms that align with the company’s objectives and regulatory requirements. This senior leadership position requires a strategic thinker with a proven track record in designing and implementing enterprise-wide risk management frameworks, ensuring compliance with local and international standards, and fostering a culture of accountability and transparency. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional leadership skills, a deep understanding of risk mitigation strategies, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to drive operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Governance Leadership: Develop and implement governance frameworks that enhance decision-making processes, ensure ethical conduct, and promote stakeholder confidence. Oversee the establishment of governance policies, procedures, and best practices in alignment with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Risk Management: Lead the identification, assessment, and mitigation of risks across the organization, including financial, operational, strategic, and compliance risks. Design and implement risk management strategies that proactively address potential threats while capitalizing on opportunities for growth.
- Internal Controls: Establish and maintain a comprehensive internal control environment to safeguard company assets, ensure financial integrity, and prevent fraud. Collaborate with internal audit teams to evaluate the effectiveness of control measures and recommend enhancements as needed.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to local and international regulations, including but not limited to, anti-corruption laws, data protection regulations, and industry-specific compliance requirements. Monitor regulatory changes and assess their impact on the company’s operations, providing guidance to senior management on compliance strategies.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and the Board of Directors on governance, risk, and control matters. Foster strong relationships with external stakeholders, including regulators, auditors, and industry partners, to ensure alignment with best practices and regulatory expectations.
- Team Leadership: Build and lead a high-performing governance, risk, and control team, providing mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and accountability within the team and across the organization.
- Strategic Planning: Contribute to the development of the company’s long-term strategic plans by integrating governance, risk, and control considerations into business initiatives. Ensure that risk appetite and tolerance levels are clearly defined and communicated to support informed decision-making.
Qualifications and Experience
To excel in this role, candidates must possess the following qualifications and experience:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Risk Management, or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., CPA, CFA, CRCM, CISA, or equivalent) is highly desirable.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in governance, risk management, and internal controls, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role. Prior experience in the entertainment, real estate, or investment sectors is advantageous.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in risk management frameworks (e.g., COSO, ISO 31000), internal audit standards, and regulatory compliance tools. Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data to drive informed decision-making.
- Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire teams, foster collaboration, and drive organizational change. Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts to diverse audiences.
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Arabic is a plus.
