Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Optometrist to join our healthcare team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for conducting comprehensive eye examinations, diagnosing and managing ocular conditions, and providing expert care to patients of all ages. Your expertise will be instrumental in identifying systemic diseases that manifest through ocular symptoms, ensuring timely referrals, and delivering personalized treatment plans. This position requires a deep understanding of the visual system, proficiency in advanced diagnostic techniques, and a commitment to patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

The Optometrist will perform a wide range of clinical duties, including but not limited to:

• Comprehensive Eye Examinations: Conduct thorough dilated eye exams to assess visual acuity, refractive errors, and overall ocular health for both near and distance vision, with and without corrective lenses.
• Advanced Refractive Assessments: Perform objective refraction using a retinoscope and subjective refraction to determine precise lens prescriptions. Conduct cycloplegic refraction when necessary to accurately assess refractive errors in patients with accommodative issues.
• Binocular Vision & Strabismus Management: Diagnose and treat binocular vision disorders, accommodative dysfunctions, and strabismus, providing appropriate therapeutic interventions or referrals for surgical correction when needed.
• Neurological & Systemic Disease Detection: Evaluate visual pathways for signs of neurological disorders by assessing pupil function, ocular motility, optic nerve health, and interpreting perimetry results. Refer patients to neurologists or other specialists for further evaluation when indicated.
• Ocular Disease Diagnosis & Management: Independently examine and diagnose a variety of ocular diseases using advanced diagnostic tools such as slit lamps, fundus lenses (90D, 28D, 20D), and gonioscopy. Utilize diagnostic drugs including fluorescein dye, mydriatics, cycloplegics, and topical anesthetics as required.
• Intraocular Pressure Measurement: Measure intraocular pressure using Goldmann applanation tonometry to screen for and monitor glaucoma.
• Minor Ocular Procedures: Perform essential procedures such as removing superficial foreign bodies, eyelash epilation, and installing punctum plugs for dry eye management.
• Pre- and Post-Operative Care: Collaborate with ophthalmic surgeons to conduct pre-operative assessments and provide post-operative follow-up care, ensuring optimal patient outcomes.
• Emergency & Urgent Care Referrals: Identify and refer patients with critical conditions, including retinal detachment, macular holes, proliferative diabetic retinopathy, hypertensive retinopathy, advanced cataracts, corneal lacerations, or significant ocular hemorrhages to appropriate specialists without delay.
• Systemic Disease Referrals: Refer patients to family physicians, neurologists, or other specialists when ocular signs suggest underlying systemic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, anemia, or infectious diseases.
• Patient Education & Counseling: Educate patients on preventive eye care, proper use of medications, and lifestyle adjustments to maintain optimal ocular health. Provide guidance on vision therapy and low vision rehabilitation when necessary.
• Pharmacy & Supply Coordination: Ensure the availability of essential medications and stationery supplies by coordinating with the pharmacy and procurement teams.
• Collaborative Care Initiatives: Participate in patient-centered care programs and contribute to initiatives that enhance the overall patient experience, emphasizing compassion, respect, and dignity in every interaction.

Qualifications & Experience

To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Optometry from an accredited institution.
• Professional Licensure: Valid optometry license and adherence to professional standards and ethical guidelines.
• Experience: Minimum of three years of hands-on experience in a hospital or clinical setting, with a proven track record in patient care, diagnostic procedures, and therapeutic interventions.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment such as slit lamps, tonometry devices, fundus cameras, and perimetry tools. Strong clinical skills in refraction, binocular vision assessment, and ocular disease management.
• Soft Skills: Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving abilities. A patient-centered approach with a commitment to delivering high-quality, empathetic care.
