Senior Retrofit Solutions Engineer – Avionics Systems Upgrades

Position Overview

Airbus S.A.S is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Retrofit Solutions Engineer specializing in Avionics Systems Upgrades to join our dynamic team in Al-Qatif, Saudi Arabia. In this pivotal role, you will lead the design, development, and implementation of cutting-edge avionics retrofit solutions, ensuring seamless integration and enhanced performance for our global fleet of aircraft. Your expertise will be instrumental in modernizing existing aircraft systems to meet evolving regulatory standards and customer demands, while maintaining the highest levels of safety, reliability, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical Leadership: Provide expert guidance and leadership in the evaluation, selection, and integration of advanced avionics systems upgrades for retrofit applications. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, procurement, and customer support, to deliver tailored solutions that align with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
• System Design and Development: Lead the end-to-end development process for avionics retrofit solutions, from initial concept and feasibility studies to detailed design, testing, and certification. Utilize your deep technical knowledge to propose innovative solutions that optimize performance, reduce weight, and enhance fuel efficiency while ensuring compliance with industry standards such as DO-178C and DO-254.
• Project Management: Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of retrofit projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality benchmarks. Manage stakeholder communications, risk assessments, and resource allocation to mitigate potential challenges and drive project success.
• Regulatory Compliance and Certification: Work closely with certification authorities and regulatory bodies to ensure that all retrofit solutions meet stringent aviation safety and environmental regulations. Prepare and submit necessary documentation, including compliance reports and certification packages, to facilitate smooth approval processes.
• Customer Engagement and Support: Act as a technical liaison between Airbus and our customers, providing expert advice on retrofit solutions tailored to their specific operational needs. Address customer inquiries, resolve technical issues, and ensure post-implementation support to maximize customer satisfaction and retention.
• Continuous Improvement: Drive innovation by staying abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in avionics systems upgrades. Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost reductions, and performance enhancements to maintain Airbus’s competitive edge in the market.

Qualifications and Experience

To excel in this role, you must possess a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Avionics, or a related field. A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in avionics systems engineering, with at least 3 years in a senior or leadership position, is required. Proficiency in avionics retrofit design, certification processes, and industry standards (e.g., ARINC 429, ARINC 653, MIL-STD-1553) is essential. Strong project management skills, including experience with tools such as MS Project or Primavera, are highly desirable.

Candidates should demonstrate exceptional problem-solving abilities, analytical thinking, and a commitment to delivering high-quality solutions under tight deadlines. Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in Arabic is a plus. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with global teams and stakeholders.
